Priyank Panchal Strengthens Gujarat's Reply to Kerala's 457
Gujarat needs 29 more runs to make a place in Ranji Trophy final.
Priyank Panchal led Gujarat's response to Kerala's 457, ending Day 4 at 429/7.
Gujarat's openers started strong, hitting a boundary nearly every over for the first 13, reaching a quick fifty partnership. They went to Lunch at 61 without loss and continued similarly afterward. While Panchal initially played a supporting role, Arya Desai reached his half-century with a four to sweeper-cover in 82 balls soon after Lunch. Panchal quickly caught up, reaching fifty in 96 balls with the first of two boundaries in Aditya Sarwate's over.
Nedumankuzhy Basil finally got Kerala the breakthrough they needed by taking Desai's wicket. Desai had started to play more aggressively, but Basil bowled him out for 73, breaking the 131-run opening partnership.
Manan Hingrajia then joined Panchal at the crease, and Gujarat went to Tea at 146/1. Panchal then took control, forming an unbroken 91-run partnership with Hingrajia. Panchal reached his century in 155 balls with a six off Sarwate, ending the day at 117 not out, with Hingrajia on 30. Gujarat ended the day with nine wickets in hand, trailing Kerala by 235 runs.
Earlier in the morning session, Mohammad Azharuddeen reached 150 runs with a single on the first ball of Day 3. He added 40 more runs to Kerala's overnight score of 417, finishing unbeaten on 177 as his team was bowled out in the 10th over of the day. Gujarat's captain, Chintan Gaja, took two of the last three wickets, ending with figures of 2 for 75.
Brief scores: Gujarat 429/7 (Priyank Panchal 148, Aarya Desai 73; Jalaj Saxena 4-137) trail Kerala 457/10 (Mohammed Azharuddeen 177*, Sachin Baby 69, Salman Nizar 52, Arzan Nagwaswalla 3-81, Chintan Gaja 2-75) by 28 runs.
