2nd Semi-Final Ranji Trophy: Mumbai bowled out on 270
Vidarbha Seeks First-Innings Lead After Mumbai's Middle-Order Collapse
Mumbai went from 113 for 2 to 118 for 6 with in the 11 balls.
Mumbai faces a tough challenge in their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha after a dramatic middle-order collapse, losing four wickets in just 11 deliveries. Parth Rekhade, a left-arm spin allrounder in only his second first-class match, took three crucial wickets—Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube—in a single over, dropping Mumbai from a strong 113 for 2 to 113 for 5.
Rahane was the first to fall in the triple-wicket over, bowled for 18 after the ball rolled back onto the stumps off a defensive push. Suryakumar Yadav followed with a two-ball duck, caught at silly point by Danish Malewar after the ball took the inside edge and came off the pad. Shivam Dube then edged one that skidded across from around the stumps, caught at slip by Atharva Taide.
The drama continued as Shams Mulani, who had staged a remarkable comeback in the quarter-final with Tanush Kotian, was trapped lbw by left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey. Initially given not out, replays confirmed the ball would have hit the stumps, and Mulani had to walk back for 4. This marked Dubey's 60th wicket, making him the sixth bowler in Ranji history to achieve this milestone, and the first since Jaydev Unadkat in 2019-20.
As he often does, Shardul Thakur led a strong fightback for Mumbai with a half-century stand alongside wicketkeeper Akash Anand, who made a fifty from the top of the order. Shardul played aggressively, scoring 37 off 41 balls before being caught at deep square while trying to pull Yash Thakur, concluding an eventful session.
Yash Thakur bowled with full intensity on a hot afternoon, ending with figures of 2 for 56 in 11 overs. He broke a half-century partnership by dismissing Siddhesh Lad and should have had Rahane lbw on 11, but a no-ball saved Rahane.
In the morning session, Vidarbha added only 75 runs to their overnight 308 for 5. Yash Rathod, their top scorer this season, made a half-century before a collapse began. Dube, who had taken wickets on the opening day, claimed three more in three overs, finishing with impressive figures of 11.5-1-49-5, his third five-for in first-class cricket.
