Afghanistan Smoothly makes it to the Super 8’s in the T20 World Cup 2024

Afghanistan won the match by seven wickets. They chased the target and scored 101 runs for 3 wickets in 15.1 overs.

Afghanistan bowled very well for the third game in a row, winning by seven wickets against Papua New Guinea at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. This win guaranteed Afghanistan a place in the Super 8s. Because of this, New Zealand was knocked out, and West Indies, who had already beaten New Zealand, also qualified.
Where did they win the game?
In Afghanistan's latest match, their bowlers quickly took wickets in the first part of the game against PNG, leaving them in trouble at 30 runs for 5 wickets in just six overs. They had lost 7 wickets by the time they reached 50 runs, Kiplin Doriga and Alei Nao tried to fight back, but Afghanistan managed to win the game comfortably in the end.
Papua New Guinea:
Initial Overs: 30/5 (RR: 5.00; 4s/6s: 1/0)
At the beginning of the PNG team’s turn to bat, things seemed calm. But soon after, Afghanistan’s bowlers, Farooqui and Naveen–Ul–Haq, started taking wickets quickly. They used the movement and bounce of the ball well, making it difficult for the PNG’s batters to gain runs.
Middle Overs: 46/2 (RR: 5.18; 4s/6s: 3/0)
Once the ball became less bouncy, Papua New Guinea (PNG) could stay in the game. They stopped Rashid Khan from taking any wickets and even scored runs off Afghanistan's captain. But PNG made two mistakes by running out their players. Chad Soper was the first to make a bad decision while running, and Norman Vanua couldn't run fast enough because his bat was stuck on the ground. Kiplin Doriga and Alei Nao managed to score some helpful runs with the help of many extra points.
Death Overs: 19/3 (RR: 3.93; 4s/6s: 2/0)
With only two players left, Papua New Guinea couldn't score quickly towards the end of their innings. The main question was if they could reach a score above 100, but they didn't quite manage it.
Afghanistan:
Initial Overs: 39/2 (RR: 6.50; 4s/6s: 3/1)
“After their strong start, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran got out quickly, which gave Papua New Guinea (PNG) some hope. They made risky moves when they tried to hit the ball hard but ended up getting their stumps knocked over. Credit goes to PNG’s bowlers early in the game for keeping it straightforward and not letting the batters score easily. If Kiplin Doriga had caught a straightforward catch, Afghanistan could have lost their third wicket in Gulbadin Naib.”
Middle Overs: 62/1 (RR: 6.77; 4s/6s: 4/2)
A low score to chase meant Gulbadin Naib and Azmatullah Omarzai could take their time. Omarzai got out in a tricky way when the ball rolled back and hit his stumps. But Naib played well, except for one time he was almost caught out. With Mohammad Nabi helping him, Naib finished the game with 29 balls left. They made it look easy as they got closer to winning.
Summary Of Scores:
Papua New Guinea scored 95 runs in 19.5 overs. Kiplin Doriga made 27 runs. Afghanistan’s bowlers Fazalhaq Farooqui took 3 wickets for 16 runs, and Naveen-Ul-Haq took 2 wickets for 4 runs.
Afghanistan chased the target and scored 101 runs for 3 wickets in 15.1 overs. Gulbadin Naib made 49 not out. Semo Kamea took 1 wicket for 16 runs.
