As India prepares to face Pakistan, tough batting conditions are in store

After forecasting the New York pitch, Team India needs tough batting preparations for the next match.

Team India has to prepare for tough batting conditions against the Pakistan match on Sunday. Captain Rohit Sharma got injured and retired hurt after getting hit on the arm during the game with Ireland.

Team India terrifically won the first match against Ireland in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. They all out the Ireland on 96 runs in New York. However, Captain Sharma quoted related to the pitch experience “We are not excepting anything about the pitch to be honest, but surely will be prepared accordingly the condition likely to be”.

After forecasting the New York pitch conditions after the low-scoring match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, seems pace-friendly. So, therefore Team India picked up three fast bowlers- Hardik Pandya, and two spinning- all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel instead of Kuldeep Yadav. However, this strengthens the batting against Ireland.

Team India Captain Rohit Sharma has stated to the media, ‘‘We cannot play four spinners here certainly,’’ said Rohit, who had boasted of India’s rapid bowling strength leading into the tournament. This was a deliberate strategy when we were selecting the team; we wanted to strike that balance. Employing two spinners would mean that if conditions are there for the seamers, we wanted to have that. That role of spin will come into later during the latter stages of this tournament.

“From the pitch and conditions, it is understandable to change and do what is required at that time but today the plan of the pitch was four-seam fast and still got two spinners, who are all-rounder with us. It gives balance to the team in the subsequent game. ”He further said about Pakistan’s game that it will be kind of the game in which all the eleven players will have to chip in.

Rohit Sharma, captain of team India scored a half-century while chasing Ireland but ended up getting retired hurt after hitting on the arm by the short ball delivery from Josh Little.

Jasprit Bumrah, who picked 2 for 6 in his three-over spell and was awarded Player of the Match, was thrilled after his first T20 World Cup match since, you guessed it, 2021. He could not play in the 2022 Australian Open because of a back problem and said that he liked the New York courts.

Always eager to learn and improve, Bumrah said, ‘Coming from India, when you see the ball seaming and doing quite a lot, with good bounce and pace, you would never complain when there is something for the bowlers”. However, you do have to be proactive in this format, you can’t pre-empt things. As such, there is the need to accommodate certain conditions. We were involved in a practice game here [vs Bangladesh], and finally understood how the wicket behaves. We noticed that the new ball will do a lot for you, so it is best to just keep on doing what is beneficial for you.
