Babar and Naseem were Recalled for the South Africa Tour
Shaheen Shah Afridi has been left out of Pakistan's squad for the two-Test series in South Africa in December and January.
Babar Azam and Naseem Shah has taken a return ticket to the Pakistan test squad for the multi-format tour of South Africa. Meanwhile, Shaheed Afridi has been named only in white-ball squads as he needs to be prepared for the Champions Trophy for the coming year. After losing the first Test in Multan to England by an innings, Pakistan dropped the mentioned trio and prepared spin-friendly pitches, which helped them win the next two matches.
Babar, captain Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, and Saim Ayub are the only players selected for all three formats.
Mohammad Abbas, Khurram Shahzad, and Mir Hamza have also returned to the Test squad. However, offspinner Sajid Khan, who won Player of the Series against England in October, was left out. Pakistan chose Noman Ali as the only spinner, considering the conditions expected in Cape Town and Centurion.
Abbas, who last played for Pakistan in August 2021, had an impressive Quaid-e-Azam Trophy season, taking 31 wickets in five matches for Lahore B. Khurram Shahzad is also in good form, having taken 15 wickets for Pakistan Shaheens against Sri Lanka A last month.
In the ODI squad, Sufiyan Muqeem earned his first call-up. He has taken eight wickets so far in the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe, including a career-best 5 for 3 in the second match.
The Pakistan T20I squad will travel straight to South Africa from Zimbabwe after the third match on December 6, while the Test squad will arrive on December 13.
Pakistan will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests between December 10 and January 7. Shan Masood will lead the Test team, while Mohammad Rizwan will captain the white-ball squads.
