Bangladesh Secure Historic Win with Powerful Batting and Teamwork in Bowling

Bangladesh listed the first Test win in the West Indies in 15 years when they beat the hosts by 101 runs in Jamaica.

Bangladesh ended the year 2024 on a high note, as they would be able to win their first match against the West Indies in 15 years. In this match, they have used their aggressive mindset skills and grip properly. Taijul Islam took 5 wickets for 50 runs, helping Bangladesh bowl out the home team for 185 and secure a 101-run victory. This win was their third Test victory abroad in 2024, following a 2-0 series win against Pakistan.
Taijul’s heroics on the fourth day were backed by Nahid Rana, who also took five wickets in the first innings, helping Bangladesh gain a small lead despite a low first-innings score. A determined batting effort in the second innings, led by Shadman Islam, Mehidy Hasan, and Jaker Ali, caught Pakistan off guard. Shahadat Hossain also contributed, stepping in at number three as Mominul Haque was unwell.
When the team was going to bat in the second innings, he told batters that this wicket would not be easy to pass on, but they needed to be positive. They are still leading by 18 runs, they really need to score runs and if they are able to score more than 250 then they can easily win the match.  skipper Mehidy Hasan said after the game.
He added "I told Dipu (Shahadat) to step in when Sourov (Mominul) fell sick. The whole team was confused at that moment. I asked Dipu to bat at number three, and he agreed. I told him to play positively and go for it if the first ball looked good to hit. I assured him no one would criticise him, and I gave him full freedom. He played with that mindset, and his 28 runs were crucial. When I batted at number four, I used the same approach because runs were vital on this pitch," he explained.
Mehidy Hasan, leading the team in place of injured regular captain Najmul Hossain, expressed happiness that the players followed his advice.
"I'm really happy that we won the second game after losing the first one. This is a huge achievement for me, especially since it’s my first time as captain, and that too in the West Indies," Mehidy said. "The players did a great job, and I give credit to all of them for supporting my decisions. It was tough for everyone in these conditions, but the team was determined to win and mentally prepared to do whatever it took," he added.
Taijul Islam, who took three crucial wickets, including West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite, also made an impact by dismissing Kavem Hodge (55) and Joshua De Silva, leaving the hosts struggling at 164/7.
"I’m happy with my performance because I met the team’s expectations. I knew there was pressure on me in the second innings, and Alhamdulillah, I delivered," Taijul said. "This win is significant because we had a lot of young players, but the communication and teamwork were excellent. Everyone was determined to win, and the effort was incredible," he added.
Pacer Taskin Ahmed, who shared the Player of the Series award with Jayden Seales after taking 11 wickets in two matches, highlighted the importance of the result.
"Drawing the series is a big achievement, especially since many top teams have struggled here," Taskin said. He also reflected on the tough times Bangladesh faced after their historic Test series win against Pakistan, losing five straight Tests.
"I gave my best in both games, and being named Player of the Series is rewarding, but I hope to achieve more," Taskin said. After recovering from a shoulder injury that kept him out of Test cricket, he added, "I worked hard to return to Test cricket, and now my shoulder feels better. Hopefully, I can keep improving in the future."
