Baroda's 349/5 sets new world record for highest T20 score
The highest ever T20 total, surpassing Zimbabwe's 344 for 4 against Gambia which they scored just last month in Nairobi.
On Thursday in Indore, Baroda has finally been able to break all the records in T20 cricket as they smashed Sikkim at 349 for 5 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They beat Zimbabwe's record of 344/4 against Gambia in Nairobi in October.
Overall, Baroda hit 37 sixes in their innings, breaking another T20 record. Zimbabwe previously held the record for most sixes in an innings with 27, also against Gambia.
Shashwat Rawat, recently part of India A in the Duleep Trophy, and Abhimanyusingh Rajput, who smashed a 19-ball fifty, laid the foundation for Baroda’s huge total with a 92-run opening stand during the powerplay. Bhanu Pania built on that start, scoring a blistering century off just 42 balls, hitting five fours and 15 sixes. His first fifty came off 20 balls and the next off 22 balls.
This was Pania’s first century in domestic white-ball cricket, achieved in his 39th innings. He remained unbeaten on 134 off 51 balls, with a strike rate of 262.75.
Shivalik Sharma and wicketkeeper Vishnu Solanki also joined the run-fest, both scoring rapid half-centuries. Shivalik made 55 off 17 balls, while Solanki hit 50 off 16 balls before getting out in the 17th over when Baroda was just 10 runs away from 300. Despite Hardik Pandya missing the game, Baroda still managed to break the world record. Four of Sikkim's seven bowlers conceded over 20 runs per over.
Baroda has dominated the domestic season, topping Group A in the Ranji Trophy with four outright wins in five matches. In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, they had won five of their six games before Thursday.
