BCCI Announces Adjustments to India's Home Season Schedule
The Board of Control for Cricket in India unveiled a revised schedule for Team India's upcoming home season. The adjustments will primarily impact the upcoming series against Bangladesh and England.
The BCCI has made two changes to India's home season schedule. The first T20I against Bangladesh on October 6 has been moved from Dharamsala to Gwalior. Additionally, the venues for the first and second T20Is against England in January 2025 have been swapped. The first match will now be in Kolkata and the second in Chennai.
There will be a necessity to change the first T20I venue against Bangladesh from Dharamshala to Gwalior because there is renovation work going on in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Dressing room as per the statement of BCCI. This is the second time in two years that an international match has been relocated from Dharamsala. In February 2023, the third Test between India and Australia was moved to Indore at the last minute because the outfield in Dharamsala wasn't ready for play.
The first T20I against Bangladesh will be the first international match at the new Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium. It's also the first international game in the city since 2010 when Sachin Tendulkar scored his historic double-century in men's ODIs.
Earlier, it was scheduled that Chennai would host the first T20I on January 22 and the second match would be in Kolkatta on January 25 but venues have switched now. "The venue change was necessary due to a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal, citing their prior commitments and obligations for Republic Day," stated the BCCI.
The home international season of India’s 2024-25 starts with two tests and three T20I that will be against Bangladesh starting on 19 September and last till October 12, afterwards, New Zealand will visit for three test matches that will be from October 16 to November 5.
India will tour Australia for five Test matches from November 22 to January 7. After that, they will return home to host England for five T20Is and three ODIs from January 22 to February 12. These ODIs against England are the only 50-over games India has scheduled before the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
