BCCI Retained the two-bouncer rule and Ruled Out the Impact Player rule in SMAT
BCCI has removed the Impact Player rule from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), the national domestic T20 tournament.
The BCCI, which runs cricket in India, has removed the Impact Player rule from the SMAT, a domestic T20 tournament. This was expected, but it is different from what they did in the IPL. The BCCI told IPL teams that they will keep the Impact Player rule for the next IPL season.
BCCI has confirmed the SMAT Decision to the state association by a communication on Monday evening. The Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament will be starting on 23 November and ending on 15 December. The BCCI has said that they will not use the Impact Player rule in this season's tournament.
The Impact Player rule started in the SMAT a few seasons ago as a test. Later, it was used in the IPL. It made the games more exciting for viewers, with high scores and chases. However, players didn't like it very much. Many captains and coaches thought it was bad for the competition. It also made it harder for all-rounders to develop, as teams started choosing players who only batted or bowled.
Two Bouncer Rules to Be Continued
The BCCI has kept the two-bouncer rule, which was first used in the SMAT last season and then in the IPL. This rule says that a bowler can only bowl two fast short-pitched deliveries per over.
This is new for BCCI T20 matches. The ICC only allows one bouncer per over. Many cricketers in India, especially in the IPL, liked the extra bouncer.
Laxmipathy Balaji, a former India pacer and bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings, said it was a good move. He said it would be good for fast bowlers and would give bowlers, captains, and coaches something to think about for each batter. It would also make the game between the bat and ball more balanced.
