Chetan Sakariya is stepping in for the injured Umran Malik at KKR

The left-arm quick pacer Chetan Sakariya has been signed up at a price of INR 75 lakh.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have brought in left-arm fast bowler Chetan Sakariya as a replacement for Umran Malik, who is ruled out of IPL 2025 due to injury.
Malik, now 25, hasn't played a competitive match since IPL 2024, where he appeared in just one game for Sunrisers Hyderabad. On the other hand, Sakariya is also recovering from an injury and last played in February 2024 during a Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra.
Malik made a big impact in 2021 with his raw pace, touching 150kph, but has since struggled with injuries and health issues. He was set to play in the Duleep Trophy at the start of the  2024-25 season but had to withdraw due to dengue, followed by a hip fracture.
In T20Is, Malik has played eight matches and taken 11 wickets, although his economy rate is on the higher side at 10.48. Sakariya, with experience in two T20Is, has taken one wicket at an economy rate of 9.27.
Sakariya may also step in for Spencer Johnson, KKR's main left-arm fast bowler. However, Malik's absence leaves KKR without a quick Indian backup for Anrich Nortje, who has a history of injuries.
KKR, the reigning champions, had won the IPL 2024 title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.
