CSK Brings in South Africa Batter Dewald Brevis to Replace Injured Gurjapneet Singh
IPL 2025: South Africa Batter Dewald Brevis added to the CSK Squad for the upcoming matches. Brevis played IPL 2022 for the Mumbai Indians.
South African batter Dewald Brevis has been selected by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the replacement of Gurjapneet Singh, who is injured during a match for the remaining IPL 2025. And Brevis will join the team in exchange for 2.2 Crore INR.
In total, Brevis has played 81 T20S and scored 1787 runs and has a highest score of 162 runs. Along with that, he has also played 2 T20IS for South Africa in 2023. Earlier in 2022, he represented the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Whereas in the early months of this year he made Cape Town secure their win and got the title of SA20 by giving 38 runs in just 18 balls in the finals. Dewald Brevis was the sixth-highest run-scorer in that tournament, making 230 runs at a strike rate of 184. His powerful hitting and ability to find unique gaps on the field have impressed franchise owners worldwide. He has played in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and represents the Mumbai Indians (MI) team in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA
For the 2025 IPL auction, Bravis came with a base price of Rs 75 Lakhs but remains unsold even though he has been in good form over the last few months. Dewald Brevis finished as the second-highest run-scorer in South Africa's one-day and first-class tournaments. Despite being early in his career, the 21-year-old has already gained attention, especially for his batting style, which closely resembles AB de Villiers. Because of this, he earned the nickname "Baby AB."
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh, who was bought by CSK for INR 2.2 crore, did not get a chance to play this season.
CSK are struggling at the bottom of the points table with only two wins in seven matches. Earlier, their regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the season due to an elbow injury, leading MS Dhoni to take over as captain.
