De Silva Grieves Over Lack of Practice Matches Ahead of Test Series
Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka's captain, has revealed that his team wanted to play more than one warm-up match before their Test series against England.
Dhananjaya de Silva agrees that he wants to attend at least one more warm-up match to build up before the test series against England which is going to be Sri Lanka's first test tour for the UK after 8 Years. Last week, Sri Lanka played a four-day match at New Road against the England Lions. They struggled in their first innings, scoring only 139 runs, and ended up losing the game by seven wickets.
Although Sri Lanka improved their batting in the second innings, they will start the Test in Manchester without any more practice matches. Dhananjaya mentioned, “The conditions here are very different from Asia. We wanted to play more matches, but this is what we have.”
We weren’t prepared well and have the full-strength although we have tried out some of the players too. And the results weren’t satisfying but this time we are all prepared and I hope in this match we will play well.
Dhananjaya, who has made Sri Lanka win the Victory three tests series that he led adds up that since 2018 this is going to be Sri Lanka’s first test series that consists of more than two tests which might tighten the schedule. As a result, his team missed out on another potential practice game. However, the captain believes his team is in a good state of mind.
Our mental state is good. We lost the practice match, but it was meant for our training, and we got the preparation we needed. It looks like the upcoming match might be affected by rain. It’s been a while since we played here, but we have some experienced players who are sharing their knowledge with me.”
