Eden Gardens will host the IPL 2025 final on May 25
IPL 2025 will start from Kolkata on 22nd March and return to Eden Gardens after 64 days on 25th May for the final.
Eden Gardens, home of the IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders, will host the opening match of IPL 2025 on March 22 and the final on May 25. It will also host Qualifier 2 on May 23.
This will be the first final in Kolkata in ten years. Eden Gardens previously hosted the final matches in 2013 and 2015.
The other two playoffs—Qualifier 1 on May 20 and the Eliminator on May 21—will be held in Hyderabad, the home ground of the 2024 runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad.
IPL 2025 will include 74 matches over 65 days, with 12 double-headers. The opening match will feature KKR against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an evening game. The next day, March 23, will have a double-header: SRH vs. Rajasthan Royals followed by the highly-anticipated match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, both five-time champions.
Royals, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Gujarat Titans will each play three afternoon matches, while the other seven teams will each play two. Last year's afternoon matches began at 3.30 pm IST.
The schedule for IPL 2025 includes 13 venues, primarily the home bases of the 10 teams, with Guwahati (Royals' second home venue), Visakhapatnam (Capitals' second home venue), and Dharamsala (Punjab's second home venue). Guwahati and Vizag will host two matches each, while Dharamsala will host three matches.
Punjab usually plays two games per season at the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, but this season will have an extra game. Capitals, Mumbai, and LSG will be Punjab's opponents for these three matches, scheduled from May 4 to 11. Punjab is the only team to have three consecutive home matches. No team will play three consecutive away matches.
Since the IPL expanded to ten teams in 2022, the teams have been divided into two groups: KKR, RCB, Royals, CSK, and Punjab in one group, and SRH, Capitals, Titans, Mumbai, and LSG in the other. Teams play the others in their group and one team from the other group twice, and the remaining four teams from the opposite group once.
CSK and Mumbai, for example, will meet twice despite being in different groups. After their match on March 23, they will play again on April 20, with Mumbai hosting Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium. Four teams—RCB, Mumbai, Punjab, and LSG—will start with away matches and play their first home matches in April. RCB, which made a remarkable comeback to reach the playoffs last year, will end their league season with four of their last six matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
