The Former Essex and England leg spinner, Robin Hobbs dies at 81. In 1967, Robin Hobbs started his career in cricket while playing from England against India at Headingley. He strained 12 wickets in the seven tests in the next couple of years and was a renowned leg spinner to play for England till the debut of Ian Salisbury against Pakistan in 1992. He joined Essex in 1961 and became an important member of their squad. He played 325 matches over 15 seasons and took 763 wickets at an average of 26.00. He was awarded the cap by Essex in 1964. He left Essex in 1975 but made a surprise return to first-class cricket as captain for Glamorgan in 1979. His final match in 1981 was against his former club, and he ended his career with a five-wicket haul. While playing for Essex, Hobbs was able to achieve his bowling figure of 8 for 63 against Glamorgan in 1966. He finished his career with a total of 1,099 wickets. His 1000th wicket helped secure a notable victory over the county champions, Worcestershire, in 1975. In terms of batting figures, Robbs was hard to be known for that- he was just able to score 5000 runs in his first-class cricket. His career total includes only two centuries, out of which he last scored in 1975 while playing against Australia. But he made his fastest hundred during Walter Lawrence Trophy season.
