England Secures Memorable Victory Against Pakistan
Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal both scored fifties but could not prevent England's march to victory.
Pakistan scored 500+ runs in their first turn at bat, but it wasn't enough. England bowled them out for 220 in their second try, winning the match by a big margin. This was the first time in Test cricket that a team lost even after making a huge score in their first innings.
On the day before the last day, Pakistan's best batters got out quickly in their second try at batting, even though they were way ahead in the game. They still needed to score 115 more runs to win, and they only had four batters left.
Salman and Jamal batted well against the English bowlers for almost an hour in the morning. Salman had already scored 100 runs in the first part of the game, and he made 50 more in the second part. He hit the ball to the side of the wicket for a boundary. The English bowlers tried to bowl short balls, but Jamal didn't get hit too much. One ball even hit him on the head.
Salman and Jamal batted together for 109 runs, which was the first time a number seven and eight batter had done this for Pakistan in their third try at batting. They didn't think they could save the game, but they helped Pakistan get closer to the runs they needed to make up for the first time they batted. This gave Pakistan a chance to keep playing until the fourth part of the game.
Salman got out about an hour later when Jack Leach bowled a ball that hit him on his leg. He tried to use a review, but it didn't help.
Jamal kept batting well against the English bowlers and made 50 runs. He was lucky when Ollie Pope missed catching the ball and when Pope couldn't throw the ball fast enough to get him out. Shaheen Afridi hit the ball badly and Jack Leach caught it.
After that, it was easy for England to win. Abrar Ahmad couldn't bat because he was sick, and Pakistan's batting ended when Naseem Shah tried to hit a ball from Jack Leach but got out.
Jack Leach got all three of the batters who got out on the last day. The main reason England won was because of Harry Brook and Joe Root. They helped England score a lot of runs in their first turn at bat, even though they were batting for a long time.
Pakistan lost again, which means they haven't won a game at home in 11 matches.
