England Takes Unbeatable 3-0 Series Lead

England Takes Unbeatable 3-0 Series Lead

West Indies look for response after two heavy losses in Barbados leg of T20I series.

England finishes the series with three wickets, all thanks to their three excellent players: Sam Curran (41), Liam Livingstone (39), and Will Jacks (32), who guided well to chase the victory of 3-0 over West Indies on Tuesday in St.Lucia. Before that, their fast bowlers Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton could pick three wickets each and make them stop at 147 for 7 in their first innings.
For the third time straight in the game, Jos Buttler had the luck to win the toss and decided to field first in their best and high-scoring ground in the West Indies. England's players didn’t take much time to prove their captain’s decision right as in the first four overs they were able to take four wickets. First, Shai Hope was run out in the opening over by young Jacob Bethell. Then, Mahmood took a wicket with his third ball in the second over when Evin Lewis was caught at third man.
West Indies' situation even got worse when Nicholas Pooran missed a cross-batted shot and had his stumps knocked over by Jofra Archer, and then Roston Chase edged a ball to slip. Mahmood claimed his third wicket in the sixth over when Hetmyer lofted a pull shot to deep mid-wicket, leaving the hosts struggling at 39 for 5 by the end of the PowerPlay.
In 9.3 overs Rovmann Powell (54) and Romario Shepherd (30) were able to make a partnership of 73 runs so, that they could be able to score a respectable score. Their main target was legspinner Rehan Ahmed and Livingstone as they scored only 26 runs in their ninth and tenth overs. Powell overturned an LBW decision with the help of DRS due to an inside edge. The West Indies captain reached his fifty by hitting a six off Curran, but just as the hosts seemed ready to aim for a big score, Overton added a new twist.
The fast bowler dismissed Shepherd and Motie in the 16th over, and Powell fell in the 18th. Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein added 23 runs in the last two overs, bringing the hosts to a total of 145.
In reply, England didn’t play off well, at the start as they lost Phil Salt in the fourth ball played by Hosein. Jacks made his hands over the field and was able to score a couple of fours Before he saw his captain, Buttler, edge the ball straight to the opposing captain, Bethell managed to hit a boundary but was then caught behind by Joseph. This left the home team at 42 for 3 after the PowerPlay.
Jacks, who saw his teammates get out for low scores, put together a 38-run partnership with Curran. Curran, a left-hander, hit two boundaries off Terrance Hinds, helping to steady things a bit for the visitors. But Jacks got out at a key moment, hitting a shot straight to cover. Livingstone started his innings with a six off Joseph, then was dropped twice over the next two overs, making the most of his lucky chances. Curran then hit a six-over long-off against Motie, bringing the target down to 38 runs needed from 30 balls.
Hinds took his first wicket when he got Curran out, but a six from Dan Mousley and a strong 18th over by Livingstone, which added 16 runs, left England needing just five runs from the last 12 balls. Though Livingstone got out in the second-last over, England had already done enough and won comfortably.
Brief Scores:
West Indies 145/8 in 20 overs (Rovman Powell 54, Romario Shepherd 30; Saqib Mahmood 3-17, Jamie Overton 3-20)
England: 149/7 in 19.2 overs (Sam Curran 41, Liam Livingstone 39; Akeal Hosein 4-22) by 3 wickets.
