Gautam Gambhir's early years coach, Sanjay Bharadwaj, thinks that people mistake Gambhir's determination to win for arrogance. Bharadwaj, who has known Gambhir for over three decades, defended him, calling him a 'kid.' Gambhir was recently named the head coach of Team India after successfully mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite the public perception of clashes between Gambhir and players like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, his coach believes he is misunderstood.
Mr Bhardwaj said many things including that Gambhir is an innocent kid he has no hate for anyone he is just like a 12-year-old kid.
People have misperception about him that he is arrogant but this is only his attitude towards winning. He also added that after net he used to make him play matches and he cried whenever he lost any match and losing is not his favorite thing.
He also gives credit to the Gambhir for being the man who was able to shape the careers of many people with his defensive attitude. “People think Gambhir has an attitude, but he’s kind-hearted and polite. He’s helped many young players in their careers,” said Bharadwaj. He mentioned Navdeep Saini as an example, who got his chance because of Gambhir’s support.

Gambhir started as Team India’s head coach with a great win, leading India to a 3-0 sweep against Sri Lanka in the T20I series. He was praised for improving India’s tactics, especially by giving chances to players like Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav.
“Gautam Gambhir won’t focus on technical skills,” said Bharadwaj. “He’ll work on tactics instead. Gambhir’s role is to lift morale and build confidence in players who might be unsure of themselves,” he added
