Gongadi Trisha shines with bat and ball, leading India to consecutive Under-19 championship wins
India lifted their second Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup title in Malaysia.
After captain Kayla Reyneke chose to bat, South Africa had a strong start with Jemma Botha hitting two fours in the first over off VJ Joshitha. However, trouble started in the second over when Sisodia bowled Simone Lourens for zero, with a ball that deflected off her pads onto the stumps.
India quickly tightened the game, but Botha, South Africa's top-scorer in the tournament, showcased her skills by hitting another four off Joshitha. When Shabnam Shakil bowled in the fourth over, she managed to get Botha out with the help of an amazing one-handed catch by wicketkeeper G Kamalini, who dove to the right to grab it.
India's luck continued as left-arm spinner Shukla bowled Diara Ramlakan out with the first ball of the next over, getting her out for 3 runs. By the end of the powerplay, South Africa was struggling with a score of 29 for 3.
India's spinners kept control over their opponents, limiting runs in the middle overs, with no boundaries scored between overs 7 and 14. During this time, two more wickets fell: Trisha dismissed Reyneke for 7, and Shukla took her second wicket by bowling out Karabo Meso.
Mieke van Voorst, South Africa's top scorer in the game, broke the pressure with the team's first boundary in 56 balls and hit a few more. However, Trisha's double-strike in the 18th over set South Africa back again, with both van Voorst and Seshnie Naidu getting out while attempting big shots.
Fay Cowling hit the game's only six, but Vaishnavi quickly recovered, bowling out Cowling and Monalisa Legodi in the same over. Sisodia removed Ashleigh van Wyk with the last ball of the innings, leading South Africa to lose five wickets in 14 balls and finish at 82 all out. India's fielding was excellent, with only one difficult catch missed by Trisha.
India started strong, with Trisha hitting three fours in the first five balls she faced. She continued her attack, hitting three more fours off legspinner Naidu in the fourth over. Reyneke managed to have Kamalini caught at long-on, but India maintained their momentum. Sanika Chalke joined Trisha and played a stylish cover drive, helping India score more than half of the target within the powerplay.
Trisha was dropped on 38 in the 10th over, but with only 16 runs needed, it didn't matter much. Chalke finished the match for India in the 12th over with a boundary. Trisha ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer with 309 runs and was named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament.
