Hashmatullah is Announced as The Captain for the Test vs New Zealand and This Time No Rashid Khan
Hashmatullah Shahidi announced Afghanistan skipper for Test Against New Zealand coming September 9. Rashid Khan is surprisingly not included in Afghanistan's 20-player preliminary team member.
Rashid Khan is surprisingly not included in Afghanistan's 20-player preliminary team for the single Test match against New Zealand.
Afghanistan’s all-rounder player Rashid Khan is going to miss the one-off Test against New Zealand, which is gonna held next month in Greater Noida as Afghanistan's 20-member preliminary squad has been announced already. This has shocked many of Rashid’s fans and other spectators as he is known as the highest wicket-taker of Afghanistan who has taken 34 wickets in five Tests with an average of 22.35, including four fifers. The last match that he played was against Zimbabwe in 2021 where he managed to take 11 wickets.
In addition to Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Karim Janat are also notable players missing from Afghanistan's preliminary squad for the Test match against New Zealand. However, the team, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, includes Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib, and Azmatullah Omarzai.
As per the Afghanistan Cricket Board final 15-member squad will be declared by the end of a week-long preparatory camp in Greater Noida.
The squad is expected to arrive in India till August 28. For the training camp, there are 20 players selected out of which a squad of 15 members will be selected for the Test match against New Zealand after analysing their performance as well as fitness.
ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf has released a statement in which he said that he is glad to see youngsters in the team who have done well in domestic cricket and now have the opportunity to enrol in the Test squad for this test match.
