ICC Men’s T20 WC 2024: India Storms into Final with Rohit, Axar, and Kuldeep
Axar Patel became successful in taking three wickets when the match was new, and due to that, India won the match overwhelmingly against England.
In the T20 World Cup, no team that won the previous tournament has ever reached the final again. India continued this trend by defeating England by 68 runs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
India batted first in the semifinal and although the batting lineup did well, good innings came from Rohit Sharma (57 runs) and Suryakumar Yadav (47 runs). During the match, Axar Patel became successful in taking three wickets when the match was new, and due to that, India won the match overwhelmingly against England.
“Victorious Semifinal: Where India Secured the Win”
During the first part of the game, Jos Butler thought England allowed India to score “20-25 runs too many”. Despite England being only able to manage to score 101 runs, India seemed to have the game under control after putting 171 runs on the scoreboard. This meant England had to try and chase the highest-ever target set in a day game in Guyana. As the game went on, the pitch became slower and slower, just as Rohit Sharma had expected. Looking back, losing the coin toss turned out to be a good thing for England. Butler chose to chase the score because of the wet weather forecast. But it was risky because batting second on a slowing pitch was tough. Unfortunately, England’s difficulties were clear, especially against India’s slow bowlers who did well in these conditions.
India:
Initial Overs - 46/2 (5x4s, 1x6s)
After Adelaide 2022, India was determined to do better, even though the conditions in Guyana were tough. Rohit made some lucky shots for boundaries, and though Virat Kohli struggled and got out early, Rohit kept scoring with a few more boundaries. Rishabh Pant didn't last long either. Despite the challenging conditions, India managed to reach a competitive score, thanks to Rohit's efforts.
Middle overs- 72/1 (5x4s, 4x6s)
India has been scoring runs faster than any other team in the middle part of their matches this season. Recently, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav batted together effectively, even after a rain delay. They hit boundaries and kept the score moving quickly. Rohit Sharma was aggressive against the bowlers, but he eventually got out to a tricky delivery. Overall, India did well in scoring runs during this phase of the game.
Final overs - 53/4 (4x4s, 3x6s)
In the final game, India wondered how many runs they needed to win. After some early setbacks, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja came in to rescue the team. Pandya hit two big sixes in a row but got out trying for a third. Shivam Dube didn't last long, so Axar Patel and Jadeja had to score quickly in the last few overs. They did well, adding 24 runs and helping India finish strong.
England:
Initial Overs - 39/3 (4x4s, 0x6s)
Axar Patel didn’t wear white clothes or play in Ahmedabad with the pink ball, but he still caused problems for England. He first tricked Jos Buttler with a tricky spin to take an important wicket for India. Then, he bowled Jonny Bairstow with a ball that stayed low. Jasprit Bumrah also got Phil Salt out with a fast off-break during this exciting match.
Middle Overs - 47/5 (3x4s,1x6s)
Axar and Kuldeep Yadav bowled well against England. Kuldeep Yadav bowled a special ball that turned a lot right in his first over, which hinted at what was to come. They used spin and made the ball bounce unpredictably, which made it hard for England to play. Axar started things off by getting Moeen Ali out, and later he ran out Jofra Archer. In the middle, Kuldeep Yadav took charge. He got Curran and Jordan out lbw, but his best wicket was Harry Brook. Brook tried a risky shot against Kuldeep and lost his wicket.
Final Overs - 15/2 (1x4s, 1x6s)
“At this stage, India was on the verge of securing a victory. Suryakumar’s run-out of Rashid and Bumrah getting Archer out made England lose. This victory took India into another big game, their first in a T20 World Cup in ten years.”
Summary of Scores -
India scored 171 runs, with Rohit making 57 runs and Suryakumar making 47 runs respectively. England, in response, got all out for 101 runs in 16.4 overs. Brook scored 25 runs for England. Kuldeep took 3 wickets for 19 runs, Axar took 3 wickets for 23 runs, and Bumrah took 2 wickets for 12 runs. India won the match by 68 runs.
