T20 World Cup 2024: Format

The ninth version of the Men’s T20 World Cup is about to take place just after a couple of weeks. The edition will feature the record number of teams that participated in any World Cup. A total of 20 different nations' sides will be contested in a tournament which will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA between June 1^st to 29^th.

The contesting 20 teams have been differentiated into four groups of five where each group team will play a minimum of four matches against their allocated group members during that initial group stage. The best two teams from each group will then continue to the Super 8s stage of the tournament while the rest of the teams from each group will be eliminated.

The remaining 8 teams are played into another two groups during the Super 8s stage where the teams play against each other in 3 matches to determine who gets to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played between the top two from each of the Super 8s group with the winners then playing a single final game on June 29 at Barbados.

T20 World Cup 2024: Venues

This men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in total at nine destinations across two different islands USA and the Caribbean Island. Out of that three venues will be in the USA and six in the Caribbean Island. The 16 matches will be contested in Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York, While the most anticipated clash of the tournament between India and Pakistan is scheduled for the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island on June 9^th.

41 matches of the tournament will be played in the Six different nations of a Caribbean Island, including the semi-finals in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. However, the final title decider of the tournament is to be played in Barbados on 29^th June.

T20 World Cup 2024: Groups

The contesting 20 teams have been classified into four groups from Alphabets A to D.

Group A will include India, Pakistan, USA, Ireland and Canada. While Group B will consist of England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman.

West Indies, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea will be in Group C. Group D will mark the teams of South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal.

T20 World Cup 2024: Squads

Most of the teams have announced their preliminary teams for the T20 World cup and the teams can change their 15-man squads till 25 May.

Any changes made after that date will be subject to the approval of the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.

T20 World Cup 2024: Special Arrangements

If the match results in a tie, a Super Over shall be played and if the Super Over also ends up in a tie then the Super Over continue until a winner emerges. There is also extra time provided for the knock out matches of the event to complete the matches at the semi-final and final stages.

An additional 250 minutes is allocated for both days of both semi-finals: 60 minutes at the end of the first semi-final on June 26 and 190 minutes on June 27. The second semi-final scheduled on June 27 has 250 minutes on June 27, while the final on June 29 has a reserve on June 30.
