In June, Sri Lanka women will host West Indies women for ODIs and T20Is
Sri Lanka is set to host the three ODIs and T20s, respectively, from June 21st to 28th.
Soon after the qualification series of the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers, the Sri Lanka women's team is set to organise the three ODIs and three T20s for West Indies from June 15 to 28th in the country. However, the spectators still keep the details of the schedule undisclosed.
The meeting of the teams will be hosted after seven years. Last, in 2017 the West Indies Women's team showcased their dominance by clinching both ODIs and T20s series with concluding a 3-0 win over.
The ODI series will be played from June 15th to 21st in Galle and T20s series from June 24th to 28th in Hambantota. Despite this, the ODI series assumingly holds considerable significance with the fact that it forms an important segment of the ICC Women's Championship 2025 while being a stepping stone towards the 2025 World Cup.
West Indies, being the dominating force, have won 18 times in T20I history, whereas Sri Lanka only has 4 wins recorded in their favor. On the other hand, in ODIs both teams have battled, with West Indies having a slight upper hand at 18-14 wins.
An additional factor that makes this series a stomach-churning one is that the Sri Lanks Women’s team also hold the upper hand with some previous notable series wins against England (defeated 2-1), New Zealand (defeated 2-1) and South Africa by an identical 2-1 margin, so this tour is likely to provoke a fierce competition among these rivals.
The Women's Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be conducted in Sri Lanka from July 20 onwards, is crucial for the team of Sri Lanka, since it serves as a bilateral series and a practice tournament for the Sri Lankan team to prepare themselves for the upcoming Women's Asia Cup to be hosted in their country.
Yet after their tour to Pakistan and conquering the ODI and T20I series, fresh team West Indies coming into the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, with high self-esteem and strong momentum.
The West Indies Women's team has only 5 fixtures left before the next competitive match after that. These matches have now become the last test for the team to fine-tune their tactic and evaluate their strength in an attempt to be the best ready for the T20 World Cup in October. On the other side, the hosts are due to play a bilateral tour in Ireland this August, which falls later this year.
