In an exciting first T20I, India defeated Sri Lanka by 43 runs, and a stage has been set for the entire series. India gives a strong total of 213, and a special thanks goes to the innings from Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav adding crucial runs. Despite efforts from Sri Lankan bowlers Wanindu Hasaranga and Pathirana, they couldn't stop India's powerful finish.
Sri Lanka started well with Nissanka and Mendis hitting boundaries, but soon they had to face a series of quick wickets that slowed their progress. Other than a promising start and hard efforts from Nissanka and Mendis, they delayed in the final overs. India's bowlers, including Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Riyan Parag, delivered a disciplined performance to secure the win, restricting Sri Lanka to 170.

Initial overs ( 1 to 6)
India had a strong start in their innings as Shubman Gill did the opening and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored quickly. Gill hit a few boundaries and was in good form but got dismissed by scoring 34 runs by Asitha Fernando in a brilliant catch. Jaiswal continued the aggressive batting and reached a quick 50 with a six off Fernando.
The Sri Lankan bowlers made a comeback with Wanindu Hasaranga removing Jaiswal and later taking the crucial wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Hasaranga's wrong 'un deceived Jaiswal, leading to his stumping. Pant and Yadav managed some singles and boundaries, but India’s early momentum had been disrupted.
In summary, India had a rapid start but faced a mini-collapse as Sri Lanka fought back with key wickets. And completed initial overs by 81-2.
Middle over ( 7 to 15)
In an exciting end to the game, Asitha Fernando and Hasaranga played crucial roles for Sri Lanka. Fernando began with a wide ball but quickly got back on track, delivering a mix of good balls. He faced a challenging over against Pant, who hit him for a six and a few boundaries, but Fernando managed to maintain the pressure.
Hasaranga continued his impressive bowling, getting Pant and Hardik Pandya to push for singles, and was able to get Pandya's wicket. He also had a big chance to get Pant out but saw a dropped catch from Nissanka.
Pathirana came in and made a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav for 58. He also bowled a couple of wide deliveries and a six but kept the scoring in check otherwise.
Kamindu Mendis and Madushanka both tried to contain the run flow. Mendis struggled as Suryakumar hit a boundary off him, while Madushanka’s short balls resulted in some boundaries and a dropped catch.
In the end, India’s innings featured strong hitting from Pant and Suryakumar, but Sri Lanka’s bowlers managed to take important wickets and keep the pressure on. And the middle over end by 172-3.
Death over (15 to 20)
In the final overs of India's innings, they managed a strong finish, reaching 213 runs. Asitha Fernando delivered a slower ball that Axar Patel dispatched for a six over the sightscreen. Arshdeep Singh added a single off Fernando’s next ball, but Rinku Singh was out bowled by a slower delivery, dragging an edge onto his stumps. Axar was fortunate to get three runs off a thick edge that flew over cover point. Earlier, Pant's knock of 49 ended when Pathirana’s slower ball bowled him out.
Pant had hit a boundary and another cheeky four before his dismissal. Rinku Singh got a single off Pathirana, and Riyan Parag was out LBW to Pathirana's full delivery. Pathirana also took out Hardik Pandya with a perfect yorker, though Pandya managed to hit a boundary off a missed yorker earlier in the over. And that the Goal is set for Sri Lanka for 214 runs.
Sri Lanka:
Initial overs
In the early stages of the Sri Lanka batting, they started strongly, with Nissanka and Kusal Mendis scoring freely. Nissanka hit back-to-back fours off Arshdeep Singh and then cleared the boundary twice with powerful shots off Siraj’s short deliveries. Mendis also contributed with some aggressive strokes, including a couple of boundaries off Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling. Bishnoi’s googlies were occasionally costly, as Mendis managed to find the boundary with well-timed sweeps and cuts.
Axar Patel had some tight overs, but Mendis still managed to score with a well-placed sweep and a powerful pull shot. Despite a few close calls and a successful review for Mendis, Sri Lanka ended the powerplay with a solid score of 55 without losing a wicket, with both Nissanka and Mendis well set at the crease.
Middle overs
Sri Lanka's innings featured a rapid start with Nissanka and Mendis adding a solid partnership, but the game shifted as wickets began to fall. Nissanka, who had been playing aggressively, was dismissed by Axar Patel for 79, breaking a crucial 56-run stand. Kusal Mendis followed soon after, falling to Arshdeep Singh for 45, thanks to a catch by Jaiswal. Kusal Perera's cameo included some boundaries but he was also out in the same over, caught by Bishnoi off Axar's bowling.
Despite the breakthroughs, Sri Lanka managed to keep the scoreboard ticking with Nissanka’s earlier contributions ensuring a strong position at 140-1 after 14 overs. The innings saw notable contributions from both Nissanka and Mendis before the fall of wickets, which momentarily shifted momentum in India’s favor.
Death overs
India secured a dominant 43-run victory over Sri Lanka in a gripping contest. The final overs saw a dramatic collapse for Sri Lanka as Riyan Parag delivered a decisive performance, claiming the wickets of Theekshana and Madushanka in the 19th over. Prior to that, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh had made significant contributions; Siraj dismissed Pathirana and kept Sri Lanka to a single run in his over, while Arshdeep took key wickets, including Hasaranga and Pathirana, and controlled the flow of runs.
Ravi Bishnoi also played a crucial role, taking the final wicket of Charith Asalanka. Despite a resilient effort from Sri Lanka's lower order, including some vital runs from Kamindu Mendis and Kusal Perera, India's disciplined bowling and fielding ensured they remained in control throughout, ultimately sealing the win.
