India’s Test Squad Expected to be Announced Following First Round of Duleep Trophy
India will play their first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on September 19 and start training in Chepauk on September 12.
Red ball players of India will be starting their training very soon at Chapauk from the 12th of September for the first test against Bangladesh which is going to start on September 19. On the other hand, Bangladesh’s training will also be starting in the same venue and that is from the 15th of September.
The name of the squad for the two-test series against Bangladesh is still required to be announced by the BCCI. It has been estimated that the announcement will be made after the initial round of the Duleep Trophy. That is going to be played from September 5 to 8 in Bengaluru and Anantapur. The players that are going to be playing are Shubman Gill, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Mukesh Kumar, KS Bharat along with others.
In the domestic season-opener, other test hopefuls like Devdutt Padikkal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, B Sai Sudharsan, and bowlers like Yash Dayal, Saurabh Kumar and R Sai Kishore will stay in action.
India is all ready to start their long test series, which will be a part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25, in which two matches are with Bangladesh, and the Second test is to be held in Kanpur. The series will end on October 12 after three T20 matches. After that, India will have three Test matches at home against New Zealand. Then, they will travel to South Africa for five limited-overs matches, and later in the year, they will head to Australia for five Test matches.
The last test series that India played was against England in February which was won by Rohit Sharma 4-1. After that, there were also the IPL and T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA that India won along with the white ball series in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Bangladesh recently won a historic Test series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi and they are eager to carry that confidence into their upcoming matches in Chennai.
Bangladesh's 2-0 win in Pakistan has moved them to No. 4 on the WTC table with 45.83 percentage points. On the other hand, India is currently at the top of the table with 68.52 percentage points and will aim to improve their position in the series against Bangladesh.
