India's Zimbabwe tour will be led by VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir's appointment has been delayed: Report
Just formality is left with Gautam Gambhir’s official declaration of head coach, while NCA head VVs Laxman will travel with Team India for the Zimbabwe tour.
The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has interviewed and selected Gautam Gambhir for the next top job for the Men’s Senior Team. However, it is just a formality left for declaration, but Gambhir will not accompany the Team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour. Gautam Gambhir is tipped to replace the current Head Coach of the Men’s Senior Team Rahul Dravid after completing the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Current head coach Dravid made it clear that reapplying for the post cannot be considered and the ongoing ICC event is his last one. India is next going to tour Zimbabwe in July during which they will play a five-match T20I series. India is expected to bench many of their old-hand players for that tour. A recent update suggests that as a result, Gambhir has been left out from the Indian team to Zimbabwe.
It has been reported by the news agency PTI that the NCA chief, VVS Laxman will be going with the Indian team for the Zimbabwe series. Laxman will join his NCA support staff in the Indian squad during the T20I series early next month. The BCCI is likely to announce India’s squad for the T20Is this week. Some of the prominent performing Indian players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 are present in the targeted list of selectors. One of Suryakumar Yadav or Hardik Pandya is expected to lead the young Indian lineup for the T20I cricket series.
