India Seals Series with Super Over Thriller, Completes 3-0 Whitewash Against Sri Lanka!
Super Over win for India. A collapse in 3rd T20I game from Sri Lanka cost them the series 3-0.
India won the entire T20I series with Sri Lanka through the Super Over in the third and final T20I match at Pallekele Stadium on Tuesday.
Kusal Perera (46 off 34 balls) and Kusal Mendis (43 off 41 balls) led Sri Lanka’s chase of 138. However, their innings fell towards the end, and they were able to finish at 137/8 in 20 overs, leading to a Super Over.
For India, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Rinku Singh, and captain Suryakumar Yadav each took two wickets. In the Super Over, India needed just three runs to win. Earlier in the match, a Sri Lankan bowler made an effort and restricted Sri Lanka to a modest 137/9.
Spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana took five wickets together. Shubman Gill scored 39, supported by Riyan Parag with 26.

Initial Over
Sri Lankan players were highly prepared this time and India faced a tough challenge with wickets falling frequently. The game started with Jaiswal and Gill at the crease, but it was Theekshana who hit early and dismissed Jaiswal for 10 runs with an lbw decision. After Jaiswal, there were a series of wickets. Theekshana continued to trouble the Indian batsmen catching Rinku Singh, and dismissing Suryakumar Yadav, who was out to a catch at the long leg.
Asitha Fernando quickly removed Suryakumar Yadav caught Samson out for a duck, and got India into trouble. Shivam Dube and Shubman Gill tried to fix the innings but faced constant pressure from the bowlers. Wickramasinghe’s tight bowling added to India’s difficulties by taking wickets and restricting runs.
Despite some good batting by Gill and Dube, India’s innings were thrown into disorder by frequent dismissals. The fielding was excellent, with Pathiarana stopping a boundary and Hasaranga taking a great catch. India ended their innings poorly, with a powerplay score of 30/4, one of their lowest this year. The match showed India’s weakness in T20 conditions and the strong performance of the opposition’s bowlers. The Initial overs were finished by IND 35-4.
Middle Overs
In a tense T20 match, Sri Lanka’s spinners dominated as India struggled. Hasaranga was excellent during the match, taking important wickets and applying pressure on the Indian team. He dismissed Shubman Gill, who was stumped, and then removed Riyan Parag with a short ball which was caught by Ramesh Mendis. Hasaranga also got Ravi Bishnoi out with an inside edge off a googly.
Kamindu Mendis and Ramesh Mendis supported well, with Kamindu slowing the game taking a key wicket and dismissing Shivam Dube, who edged to Kusal Mendis. Kamindu also kept the run rate low, effectively containing the Indian batsmen.
During the middle overs, the fielding was great.. Asitha Fernando and Ramesh Mendis made crucial stops and accurate throws, and maintained a high pressure. Fernando’s precise deliveries and Ramesh’s successful effort to break the partnership between Gill and Parag were key. Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding made it hard for India to find boundaries, affecting their scoring rate.
At the halfway point, Sri Lanka controlled the match, using the conditions to their advantage. Their spinners’ grip and turn made it tough for the Indian batsmen, who faced significant challenges in their chase. And the middle overs were completed by 105-7.
Death Overs
In the final stages of the match, Sri Lanka's bowlers delivered crucial performances to confirm their victory. In the 19th over, Theekshana played an important role, dismissing Washington Sundar with a full delivery that crashed into the stumps as Sundar attempted a reverse sweep. Theekshana also contributed to the run-out of Mohammed Siraj, who was caught short of his ground after a missed ball from Kusal Mendis.
Earlier, Ramesh Mendis effectively controlled the game, recognizing only a few runs while securing a crucial wicket and containing the Indian batsmen. Sundar, however, managed to score a vital six despite Mendis’s tight bowling. The overall disciplined effort from Sri Lanka's bowlers and fielders ensured they maintained pressure and executed key dismissals to secure the win. And India sets a target of IND 138 runs for Sri Lanka.

Initial Over
In the opening overs of the match, Kusal Mendis and Nissanka started very confidently but faced a challenging bowling attack as Khaleel Ahmed and Siraj applied early pressure with disciplined bowling, keeping the batters shocked and aware. Khaleel Ahmed struggled with his line, allowing Nissanka to score a few boundaries through gaps in the field. Ravi Bishnoi started well, causing Mendis some trouble. However, Mendis soon found his consistency and hit a couple of boundaries, including one due to a misfield by Jaiswal.
Siraj and Bishnoi created some chances, but fielding errors like dropped catches and misfields let the batters score runs. As the innings went on, Mendis and Nissanka found gaps and rotated strikes, despite some tight overs from the bowlers. The early stages of the match were marked by a mix of good batting and fielding lapses. After completing the initial over the score of Sri Lanka was 45-0.
Middle Overs
In the middle overs, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, and Riyan Parag made important breakthroughs to keep pressure on Sri Lanka. Bishnoi dismissed Kusal Mendis lbw for 43 with a full delivery that beat him on a pull shot. Bishnoi also caught Nissanka at deep mid-wicket, breaking a key partnership.
Washington Sundar bowled tightly, getting extra bounce and making it hard for the Sri Lankan batters to score. Riyan Parag also bowled well, keeping the runs in check and taking Nissanka’s wicket. Despite these efforts, Kusal Perera and others found gaps and kept the scoreboard moving. The match stayed competitive with fielding errors and aggressive batting adding to the excitement.

In a thrilling finish, the match was tied at the end of the regular 20 overs, leading to a Super Over. Suryakumar Yadav, bowling the final over for India, played a great role in the Indian match. He dismissed Theekshana and Kamindu Mendis by giving two crucial catches—one reviewed and confirmed to be a glove touch, the other expertly caught by Rinku Singh. Despite these breakthroughs, Wickramasinghe managed two runs on the last ball of the innings, tying the game and sending it into the Super Over.
Rinku Singh and Washington Sundar shine for India in the final stages. Rinku dismissed Kusal Perera with a caught-and-bowled and later caught Ramesh Mendis. Sundar’s excellent off-spin took out Hasaranga and Asalanka, the latter for a golden duck. Sundar’s tight spell of 4 overs for 23 runs and 2 wickets was crucial in restricting Sri Lanka’s scoring. Khaleel Ahmed struggled with his lines, conceding several extras, adding to the drama. With wickets falling and runs being scored rapidly, the game went to a Super Over, highlighting the high stakes and intense competition.
Super overs
In Super Overs India won a victory over Sri Lanka and whitewashed the whole series. Washington Sundar began the Super Over with a wide. After a single, he got Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka caught at the boundary on consecutive balls. India needed just three runs in their Super Over. Suryakumar swept Maheesh Theekshana’s first ball to short fine leg, where Asitha Fernando missed it, allowing it to go for four.
