India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa will compete in a women's ODI tri-series in April and May
The seven game double round robin series will run between April 27 and May 11.
Sri Lanka will host India and South Africa for a women's ODI tri-series in April and May, as announced by SLC on Thursday. This series wasn't originally part of the Future Tours Programme.
Each team will play against the other two teams twice, making it four games per team. The top two teams will then face off in the final. The series will begin with Sri Lanka playing against India. All matches will be day games and will take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, from April 27 to May 11.
Currently, Sri Lanka is touring New Zealand for white-ball matches, while most Indian players are busy with the WPL at home. Some South African players are also participating in the WPL. Before this series was announced, South Africa's next international matches were scheduled for June, with a tour of the West Indies.
This tri-series will give all three teams extra practice for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India this October.
Sri Lanka is the reigning Asia Cup champion. South Africa reached the semi-finals of the 2022 ODI World Cup after eliminating India in the group stage. However, India is ranked the highest among the three, holding the third spot in ICC ODI rankings, while South Africa is fourth, and Sri Lanka is seventh.
