India to enter in CT 2025: Who Will Lead to the 2025 Trophy, Rahul or Pant?
Rahul vs Pant! who will be India's first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in the ODIs against Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned to the Indian cricket team for three One Day Internationals (ODIs) in Sri Lanka. This series is the start of India's preparation for the Champions Trophy next year. It will also show us what plans the new team leaders, led by Gautam Gambhir, have for the big tournament.
The question of Rahul vs Pant
KL Rahul has been the main wicketkeeper-batsman for India; he played this role and was the captain during India's last series of 50-over games in South Africa. He has been supported in this position since the Asia Cup last year, even though Ishan Kishan is also available as a specialist.
After recovering from a leg injury, Rahul proved his worth by scoring a hundred runs in a match where he and Virat Kohli together scored 233 runs without losing any wickets against Pakistan. During the World Cup, he was crucial for the team, scoring 452 runs which included one hundred and two fifties.
While keeping wickets, KL Rahul was generally very neat and sometimes exceptionally brilliant. He even won two awards for "best fielder of the match" from the fielding coach T Dilip, a recognition that became quite famous among the players and the fans during the World Cup.
The competition for a place in the team between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant might help Shreyas Iyer keep his position in the batting lineup. Iyer was performing very well in One Day Internationals (ODIs), especially during last year’s World Cup and the series against South Africa.
However, he lost the team management’s preference because he didn’t focus enough on domestic cricket. Despite this, Iyer went on to captain the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) victory in a decade in 2024.
Including Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul in the playing eleven could lead to India having only five specialist bowlers. This is a strategy that the team might not prefer, as it limits the bowling options available during the match.
