IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya fined 12 lakh for a slow over-rate against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024
INR 12 Lakh fined on Hardik Pandya for maintaining a slow overrate.
Once again, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya is in the news, as he was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow overrate during the match last evening (Thursday,18 April) during a game with Punjab Kings.
However, this is the first offence made by the Mumbai Indians in this season of the Indian Premier League. The code of conduct was issued due to minimum over-rate violations. During the intensified game, Mumbai Indians kept the five fielders inside the circle for the last couple of overs of the innings, the signal of maintaining the slow over rate.
Despite the disadvantages of Mumbai’s, Punjab Kings wouldn’t be able to grab the opportunity and fell short of achieving the target of 193 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. The Punjab Kings team bowled out with the remaining of last five balls.
During the match day, Punjab Kings, led by Curran, won the toss and chose to field first. A South African pacer- Kagiso Rabada made a cherished moment for the team by taking the wicket of Ishan Kishan in the third over. From Mumbai Indians’ partnership of 81 runs off 57 balls between Surya Kumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma, sets the strong foundation for the team. Later Rohit Sharma was able to score only 36 runs off 25 balls and got dismissed. Surya Kumar Yadav again got the chance to build the partnership with Tilak Verma of 49 runs on 28 balls. After creating two partnerships, Surya Kumar Yadav got with scoring 78 runs off 53 balls. Tilak Verma remains not out with a score of 34 runs off 18 balls. Hardik and Tim David too contribute to the team in creating a total of 192/7 in 20 overs.
Despite Punjab’s top-order fumble and four wickets lost in the first three overs, Shashank Singh showed some promise with his inning of 41 runs off 25 balls. Later, Shashank’s inning was dismissed by the exceptional bowling of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah impressed with his bowling figures, by taking three wickets in four overs. After struggling top and middle order, Ashutosh Sharma came to bat at no 8 and played a brilliant inning of 61 off 28 balls, including two fours and seven sixes. His Extraordinary innings helped the Punjab Kings to get back in the game.
Regardless, of the valiant effort by the batting order of the Punjab Kings couldn’t able to make the way to victory and got dismissed earlier, 9 more runs need to win. As a result, Mumbai Indians won the game by nine runs and reached the seven spot on the points table.
