IPL 2025: Kohli and Hazlewood help RCB win at home as RR mess up another chase

Kohli and Hazlewood help RCB win at home as RR mess up another chase

IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their first home victory in IPL 2025 with a thrilling 11-run win against Rajasthan Royals. Josh Hazlewood was the star performer, picking up 4 crucial wickets.

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), winning the toss at home seems like a distant dream. Once again, luck didn’t favour them at the toss. But this time, the bad luck ended there. RCB put up a strong total of 205 for 5, their highest score at home this season, and pulled off a dramatic 11-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR), marking their first home victory of the season.
A Much-Needed Win for RCB
RCB has had a tough run at home, but this match turned out to be special. Despite losing the toss again, they fought hard. With this win, they climbed into the top three of the IPL 2025 standings. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium came alive with cheers as RCB finally gave their fans something to celebrate.
RR’s Collapse in the Final Overs
Rajasthan Royals looked in control for most of the chase. They needed just 18 runs from 12 balls, and with Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey going strong, it looked like RR would win easily. But then came Josh Hazlewood, who bowled an outstanding 19th over. He gave away just one run and took two key wickets – Dhruv Jurel (caught behind) and Jofra Archer (caught at cover). Hazlewood's clever bowling completely changed the match and left RR with too much to do in the final over.
Yash Dayal Seals It Again
Just like last season against Chennai Super Kings, Yash Dayal was asked to bowl the last over. And once again, he stayed calm under pressure and made sure RCB won. RR ended up losing by 11 runs, even though they were so close to winning.
Krunal and Suyash Build the Pressure
Earlier in the match, RR were cruising at 110 for 2 in 9 overs, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s quick 49 and Nitish Rana’s smooth batting. But then came the spin duo. Krunal Pandya got a wicket with his very first ball and ended with figures of 3-0-19-2. Suyash Sharma also bowled with great control and kept the runs in check. These two slowed RR’s momentum and brought RCB back into the game.
Kohli and Padikkal Set It Up
RCB’s batting was led by Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, both scoring half-centuries. Kohli had a rough start but then found his rhythm, reaching 50 in 32 balls. Padikkal was lucky with two dropped catches and made RR pay with his second consecutive fifty.
Although RR fought back by removing Kohli, Padikkal, and Patidar quickly, Tim David and Jitesh Sharma added a quick 42 runs in 19 balls, helping RCB cross the 200-mark.
This match had everything – strong batting, clever bowling, momentum swings, and a nail-biting finish. It was a game RCB desperately needed to win, and they did it in style. For RR, it was their fifth loss in a row, and now their chances in the tournament are hanging by a thread.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 205 for 5 (Kohli 70, Padikkal 50, Sandeep 2-45)
Rajasthan Royals:  194 for 9 (Jaiswal 49, Jurel 47, Hazlewood 4-33, Krunal 2-31)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru won by 11 runs.
