MI moves up to third place as Boult and Rohit lead the team to a big win against SRH
IPL 2025: MI registered fourth consecutive win to climb up the IPL standings to 3rd position. Rohit Sharma smashed 70 in 46 balls, Suryakumar Yadav scored 40 off 19 balls, and Trent Boult took four wickets to beat SRH by seven wickets.
Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their strong comeback in the IPL 2025 season with a dominating 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. After beating SRH at Wankhede last week, MI once again outplayed them, this time in Hyderabad.
SRH’s Early Collapse
SRH was batting first, and it had a horrible start. The pitch was a bit slow, but not too difficult. Still, the top-order batters couldn’t handle the swing and smart bowling from MI's pacers. Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar were brilliant with the new ball, taking two wickets each and reducing SRH to just 24 for 4 in the powerplay the lowest powerplay score of the season.
Soon, SRH were in deep trouble at 35 for 5. It looked like they might not even cross 100 runs. But Heinrich Klaasen, once again, came to the rescue. He played a responsible yet attacking knock of 71 off 44 balls, hitting some classy boundaries, including a reverse-scoop six off Jasprit Bumrah. He found good support from Abhinav Manohar, the Impact Player, who scored 43 off 37 balls.
Together, they added 99 runs for the sixth wicket, giving SRH a fighting total. Mitchell Santner also bowled well for MI, keeping things tight with just 19 runs in his four overs. In the final few overs, SRH tried to finish strong, scoring 35 runs from overs 17 to 19. But Bumrah and Boult closed the innings well, with Boult picking two more wickets in the final over, including a rare hit-wicket dismissal of Manohar.
In the end, SRH managed 143 for 8, a decent recovery but still below par.
MI’s Comfortable Chase
Chasing 144, MI lost an early wicket when Jaydev Unadkat dismissed Ryan Rickelton. But after that, it was all MI. The ball seemed to come onto the bat better in the second innings possibly due to dew and Rohit Sharma made the most of it.
Rohit, who has been improving with every game, played another fine innings. He smashed 70 off 45 balls, including some elegant sixes. His timing and placement looked perfect, and he continued the scoring pattern of his last few innings (0, 8, 13, 17, 18, 26, 76* before this match).
Will Jacks gave him good support in the powerplay, and Suryakumar Yadav finished the job in style. SKY scored a quick 40 not out off just 19 balls, hitting boundaries at will. MI finished the match with 26 balls to spare, showing complete control throughout the chase.
The match ended with a bit of poor fielding from SRH a misjudged catch by Nitish Kumar Reddy turned into a boundary, perfectly summing up their frustrating night.
