Is Mohammed Shami Ready for the Tests against Bangladesh?
India fast bowler Mohammed Shami had suffered with ankle injury and that he was sidelined from cricket since the ODI World Cup last November.
Mohammed Shami the Veteran Indian Fast bowler is now working hard to regain full fitness so, that he will be able to make a comeback to the National Cricket team. Recently he shared his video where he was practicing batting.
Well, Mohammed Shami has not played with the Indian Cricket team since the 2023 ODI World Cup, and this was when India lost the final match. Mohammed Shami injured his Achilles tendon during the ICC event. He had surgery and missed both the 2024 IPL and the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Now there is hope that he will be ready soon for India’s home season which is going to start with a test series in September against Bangladesh. The progress of Shami has been apprised by selectors and the decision on whether he should play for the Duleep Trophy matches will be starting on September 5 in Anantpur where he needs to prove that he is all fit.
Currently, Shami is in his final stage of rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He continued his bowling last month first time after his surgery and understands well that for pain-free delivery of bowling doing it slowly would be best.
India In Test Series vs Bangladesh to be Played by Mohammed Shami
In the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, Mohammed Shami last played. He didn’t play in the first four group matches. After Hardik Pandya got injured, Shami was brought back into the team. In his first World Cup game, he took five wickets against New Zealand.
That is why Hardik Pandya’s injury doesn’t affect much in the ICC ODI tournament. Shami became an asset for the Indian team by becoming the top wicket-taker with 24 wickets in seven matches at an average of 10.71 and the rate of the economy was 5.26. Not only that he was also able to take 7 wickets in the semi-finals but somehow didn’t receive the Player of the series award.
The experienced player might come back for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. The first Test will be at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19. The second Test will be at Green Park in Kanpur on September 27.
At a ceremony with the East Bengal Club in Kolkata, Shami said he wasn’t sure when he would return. He hoped to play a few matches for Bengal before rejoining the Indian team. Shami mentioned that neither he nor the doctors expected his recovery to take so long.
Even if Shami misses some or all of India’s home Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand, he will still have time to regain his bowling form before the tour of Australia. The team will leave for Australia shortly after the third Test against New Zealand ends on November 5.
