Mullanpur(India): The Punjab Kings fell short once again in the IPL 2024 season, while against the Rajasthan Royals on April 13 match 27. The match was played at the PCA stadium in Mullanpur. Despite the low-scoring match Punjab Kings got lost by 3 wickets.

The Punjab King's bowling department showed great determination and competitiveness, the Rajasthan Royals fought hard to chase down the target set by the PBKS and pushed the match to the last over.

Kagiso Rabada and Captain Sam Curran, contribution extended the match up until the last ball. Rabada delivered a performance by taking 2 wickets for only 18 runs and Sam Curran grabbed two wickets by conceding 25 runs, respectively.

Sanjay Bangar Praised the Team

During the post-match Press Conference, the Punjab Kings ‘Head of Cricket Development, Sanjay Bangar’ praised the team's determination and performance throughout the match. He addon the team's relentless effort and the match was fought till the very end of the overs.

The Bangar stated that PBKS had shown consistent and competitive performance in the recent matches. However, the team isn’t able to achieve the desired results. Despite the team’s fighting spirit and determination being up to mark, particularly in the close matches where the game could have ended soon. Bangar, further adds that the fielder’s resilience and the bowlers’ perseverance pepped the teams' character. The lack of favourable outcomes is quite not bothering but displays the teams’  character and fight is exemplary.”

In Saturday’s match, the absence of Shikhar Dhawan was felt by the PBKS as they were opening without their regular opener. Dhawan’s shoulder injury forced him to sit out of the match against Rajasthan royals, which created a setback situation for the team.

Furthermore, Sanjay Bangar said and explained the decision, of why to appoint Sam as the stand-in captain. As he had experience in leading the team. But, due to his late arrival from the UK, he wanted to have some practice sessions before started playing in the season matches. Therefore, unable to send him to the next match and instead Jitesh Sharma has been sent in replacement of Shikhar Dhawans’

Bangar- believes and showcases his support for Jonny Bairstow and Punjab King’s top order, quoted that soon they find their form and perform well in the next matches. Jonny Bairstow has scored a total of 96 runs in a total of 6 games this season, despite not making much contribution yet but team believes in and remains confident in his abilities.

Additionally, Bangar expresses concern over the top order for not making the run in the recent matches. He acknowledges that the players are trying their best and applying themselves to the challenging wickets in Mullanpur. In the first six overs with the new ball, the wicket tends to just lag a little bit and there is uneven bounce as well. That is another contributing factor because of which, not only for us but also for the visiting teams, the top order is facing issues here.”
