Jaiswal and Pant Keep India Wicket Safe vs Australia
Pat Cummins dismissed Rohit and Rahul while Starc accounted for Kohli at the stroke of Lunch.
Yashasvi made his 14th half-century of the test matches and played well with the partnership of Rishabh Pant to increase the hopes of a draw at the MCG. They reached Tea with India at 112/3, still needing 228 runs to win. More importantly, they reduced the number of overs left in the Test, with 38 remaining in the final session.
After facing tough bowling from Mitchell Starc with the new ball, Jaiswal felt a bit more relaxed after lunch. The pitch on the fifth day didn't offer much help to the bowlers, allowing the left-handed batsman to play his shots when he got the chance.
He gets some heating with the Mitchell Starch, and Rishabh Pant has to put forward to calm his partner. The wicketkeeper kept a calm attitude while batting as well, holding back from taking on Nathan Lyon, even though he has done well against him before.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal has been able to secure his second fifty of the test- and was also his slowest off 127 balls. He and Pant managed to do what the main players Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli couldn't - they faced the new-ball spells from Pat Cummins and Starc without getting out. Jaiswal even missed a few balls that swung away from the left-arm bowler but made it to Lunch without losing his wicket.
Cummins had a great over, taking two wickets—first getting Rohit Sharma out after a careful innings, and then bowling a delivery that KL Rahul couldn't avoid. Virat Kohli showed some good intent early on, managing to leave balls outside the off-stump, but unfortunately, he ended up edging one to Usman Khawaja at slip just before the session ended.
As Australia entered the second session looking to add more wickets, they faced a strong defence from Jaiswal and Pant. After being criticized for a risky shot in the first innings, Pant played a different game now—mostly defending or letting balls go by. He didn't fall for the traps set by Cummins when he brought in Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne, finishing the session with 28 runs off 93 balls as they went for Tea.
