James Anderson is making a T20 comeback with a new deal at Lancashire

James Anderson is making a T20 comeback with a new deal at Lancashire

Anderson has not played since his farewell Test appearance against West Indies in July 24.

James Anderson might be able to play his first T20 game after more than a decade and could start his career in more time as he agreed to a one-year contract with Lancashire.
Since the Test against West Indies Anderson has not been played any match as that was his test farewell. He showed his desire to continue playing matches, he entered the IPL auction held in December but went unsold, but now he has signed a one-year contract with the Lancashire in order to play the County Championship and T20 Blast, as his ECB central contract is been expiring soon.
He made a statement and said that he is very excited to sign the contract with Lancashire, and now he will be able to resume his professional cricket again for the next season. The club has been incredibly important in his life since his childhood and now he is getting the opportunity to wear the Red Rose again which can be used in both red and white ball cricket and he is really looking forward to it.
To keep his fitness level high he has been really working hard and will continue bowling regularly at the time of being a coach with England for the entire winter, and to be present at the ground for the country season that starts in April.
Anderson, who will turn 43 this summer, started playing for Lancashire 25 years ago, in 2001. In 2024, he played just one County Championship match but impressed with figures of 8 for 64 against Nottinghamshire at Southport, topping the club's bowling averages.
He has been linked to playing in various T20 franchise leagues, excluding the IPL, and might push for more opportunities in the format, which he last played in the 2014 Blast.
Mark Chilton, Lancashire's director of cricket performance, said: "We've been in regular talks with Jimmy since he retired from international cricket, and our stance has always been clear. It's great news for everyone at the club that he has decided to continue playing for Lancashire."
"Talking to Jimmy recently, it became clear that his passion for playing professional cricket is growing stronger every day, and he’s eager to get back on the field. For now, he’s fully committed to the county season, playing in both the County Championship and Vitality Blast this summer. While we understand he’ll have other opportunities, he’s made it clear that playing remains his top priority.
"Having England’s all-time leading wicket-taker and one of cricket’s greatest players in our squad is incredible. It’s a huge boost for our team, and I’m sure our Members, supporters, and cricket fans everywhere will be just as excited to see Jimmy playing for Lancashire again next summer."
Anderson is currently in Abu Dhabi with England's fast bowlers as part of their preparations for the white-ball tour of India. On his Tailenders podcast, he shared that he’ll also be part of England's coaching staff for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next month.
