Jamieson takes Ferguson's place in New Zealand's Champions Trophy team

Jamieson takes Ferguson's place in New Zealand's Champions Trophy team

Kyle Jamieson had played only 13 ODI matches and got 14 wickets in his Career.

Lockie Ferguson New Zealand’s most experienced fast bowler has been knocked out of the Champions Trophy due to a hamstring injury. In total, he has played 65 ODIs along with two World Cups in which New Zealand reached the final four. But while playing in the  International League T20 tournament in UAE he got a hamstring injury that puts him out of the match. Now at his place, Kyle Jamieson is gonna play and register his name in the 15-member squad for the Wednesday match going to be against Pakistan in Karachi.
At the start of February, he got this injury because of which he had to leave the field without completing the four-over quota for the desert vipers. Because of this he wasn’t able to play any of the remaining matches and was knocked out at the time of the ODI tri-series that played in Pakistan. On Sunday his hamstring was tested with three over bowling but declared not fit which is why ruled out on Tuesday.
Ferguson is the second fast bowler the Black Caps have lost in the past week, with Ben Sears also sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Although the Champions Trophy conditions might be challenging for fast bowlers, New Zealand's options now appear inexperienced. Jamieson joins Will O'Rourke, Jacob Duffy, and Nathan Smith, all of whom have played fewer than 15 ODIs. This puts additional pressure on the only senior fast bowler left in the squad, Matt Henry.
Jamieson, 30, has just come back from a back injury that kept him out for 10 months. He hasn't played ODI cricket since September 2023. However, his recent performances in the Super Smash T20 competition show he's back in form. Jamieson took 14 wickets in 12 innings with an economy rate of 5.95, helping his team, Canterbury, reach the final. He also secured a PSL deal and will play for Quetta Gladiators later this year.
New Zealand is considered one of the favorites for the Champions Trophy. They won the tri-series final at the same venue where they will start their campaign. Their batting depth and all-rounders have been crucial. New Zealand is in group A and will face Pakistan, Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 24, and India in Dubai on March 2. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
New Zealand Squad: Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, Tom Latham (wk), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (capt), Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Will O'Rourke
Reserves: Will Young, Mark Chapman, Nathan Smith, Jacob Duffy
