Kings Climb to Third with Stellar Performances from Charles and Du Plessis

The Kings openers Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis put on a century stand to help set up a comfortable five-wicket win.

Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis made comfortable fifties, which led Saint Lucia Kings to win against  St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, which led them to their sixth loss. Kings needed 174 runs for victory out of 16.3 overs in which Charles played a major role as he scored 74 runs out of 42 balls (7 sixes, 4 fours ). Charles and Du Plessis had a great start, scoring 115 runs together. Du Plessis hit 62 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and five sixes. The Kings won by six wickets with 21 balls left, which improved their net run rate and moved them up to third place on the points table.
Du Plessis started the match for the Kings with a boundary off Kyle Mayers in the first over. Charles then hit two sixes off Johann Layne. Du Plessis picked up the pace, hitting two fours off Mayers and two sixes off Veerasammy Permaul. Charles also hit a boundary off the spinner, bringing the Kings to 50 runs in just four overs. The attack continued with Du Plessis hitting a six off Anrich Nortje, followed by four and two sixes from Charles off Layne, taking the Kings to 72/0 in the powerplay.
Charles becomes the first player to cross the 3000 runs meanwhile Milestones becomes the next in the CPL. In which Du Plessis's unexpected sixes helped him reach 50 runs out of 25 balls. All the players played well Permaul also made two fours, out off-22 coming off it, and that’s how the Kings were able to cross 100 runs in nine overs only, Du Plessis and Charles achieved the first 100-run opening partnership for the Kings since 2019. The match was totally in the control of the Kings at the time of the 10th over, as they reached 113/0 and needed 61 runs out of 60 balls only.
Charles reached his fifty in 33 balls during the 11th over. However, the opening partnership ended soon after when Du Plessis edged a wide delivery from Josh Clarkson to the wicketkeeper. Tim Seifert started strong with a six and a four off Tabraiz Shamsi but was dismissed when he couldn't clear the boundary off Clarkson. In the same over, Charles hit two more sixes, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa also struck a six off Shamsi. Rajapaksa overturned an lbw decision before Charles hit another six off the wrist spinner. Rajapaksa was caught by Nortje in the next over, and Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Charles and Sadrack Descarte. Despite these wickets, Roston Chase hit the winning boundary in the 17th over, securing the victory.
Earlier, after being asked to bat, Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis gave the Patriots a good start. Fletcher was more aggressive, hitting two sixes and four fours in the powerplay, while Lewis hit a couple of boundaries. They helped their team reach 50 runs in the first six overs. Descarte ended the opening partnership by getting Lewis out with a cut shot to point. Mayers hit a four and a six off Descarte but was bowled by Chase soon after. Rilee Rossouw hit a six in the same over, taking the Patriots to 82/2 at the halfway mark.
Rossouw and Fletcher then had a 70-run partnership, with Rossouw scoring most of the runs. Rossouw’s six off Noor Ahmad took the Patriots past 100 in the 13th over, and Fletcher reached his fifty in 40 balls soon after. However, a few quiet overs left the Patriots at 112/2 after 15 overs. Rossouw boosted the score with two sixes off Descarte and another off Alzarri Joseph.
Fletcher was dismissed in the same over, and Rossouw was out soon after reaching his fifty in 30 balls. David Wiese bowled many wides in the second-last over and was hit for a six by Mikyle Louis. Joseph bowled the last over, giving away only five runs, ensuring the Patriots didn’t reach 180 runs.
