Michael Bracewell to lead New Zealand in T20I matches against Pakistan

New Zealand's Key players Conway, Ravindra, Santner, Phillips, and Ferguson were not available for selection because of IPL commitments.

Michael Bracewell, the all-rounder, is set to captain New Zealand for the first time on home soil in a five-match T20I series against Pakistan. The 34-year-old previously captained the team in Pakistan last year, leading a squad mostly made up of less experienced players. This series will also feature a similar scenario, as only seven players from the Champions Trophy squad are included.
Key players like regular captain Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and Bevon Jacobs are unavailable because they are playing in the IPL. However, Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, and James Neesham are returning after missing the last series due to their commitments in T20 leagues.
Veteran leg-spinner Ish Sodhi is returning to the New Zealand squad after missing the recent series against Sri Lanka, while pacer Ben Sears is back as well after recovering from a hamstring injury that had kept him out of the Champions Trophy. Pacers Kyle Jamieson and William O'Rourke are also in the squad but will only play the first three matches of the series as the selectors want to carefully manage their workloads.
Michael Bracewell, excited to captain New Zealand again, called it a great honor and privilege to lead the team. He reflected fondly on his previous experience of captaining in Pakistan and appreciated having several players from that squad included this time as well. Bracewell praised Mitch Santner's leadership as white-ball captain and expressed his aim to continue building on Santner's work while fostering a positive team environment.
Acknowledging Pakistan as a "dangerous" T20 side with power and pace, Bracewell noted their disappointment from an early Champions Trophy exit but expects them to be strong competitors. He also mentioned the pride felt by players who represented New Zealand in Dubai, despite some disappointment, and shared his excitement about playing in front of home fans and full venues.
NZ T20 squad v Pakistan: Michael Bracewell (c), Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Mitch Hay, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Will O'Rourke , Tim Robinson, Ben Sears, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi.
