Mitchell Santner Named New Zealand's Limited-Overs Captain

The left-arm spinner has previously led the side in a stand-in capacity and will start the full-time role against Sri Lanka.

Mitchell Santner the left-arm spinner has been assigned for New Zealand’s captain for the limited overs. And right now he is replacing Kane Williamson who has taken the retirement for the T20 World Cup in June.
In 243 international matches, Santner has been able to represent himself and now he is been taking the position of captain of the T20I and ODI teams. He has also done the captaincy in team 24 T20Is and 4 ODIs.
Santner was made captain of New Zealand's T20I and ODI teams for their tour of Sri Lanka last month, but it was only for that series. For now, he is officially captaining for the limited overs only.
His full-time captaincy will be beginning in late December or Early January for the T20I and ODIs. The two series mark the start of a busy schedule of white-ball cricket for New Zealand, including an ODI tri-series in Pakistan in February, the ICC Champions Trophy, and a T20I and ODI series against Pakistan at the end of New Zealand's domestic season.
About this scanner made a statement that he is proud of the full captaincy of the white-ball. He added that, it's his honour to and a privilege for him. As a kid he always dreamt of playing for the country now he gets to chance to captain in both of the formats which is extremely special for him. Now he is excited for this new challenge.
Santner recently led New Zealand in the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. He is one of only four New Zealand players to have played more than 100 matches in both ODIs and T20Is.
Santner first captained the team in a T20I against the West Indies at Bay Oval in November 2020. In 2022, he became New Zealand's 24th ODI captain when he led the side in a one-off ODI against Scotland in Edinburgh.
Speaking about his new role, Santner expressed excitement about leading both white-ball teams. He said, "It’s an exciting feeling to captain both teams. Some of our experienced players are nearing the end of their careers, which means it's time for a change. This is a great opportunity for the remaining team and young players to step up and take the team forward."
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead praised Santner as an ideal choice for the role. He said, "Mitch is an excellent team player who leads by example in every aspect of the game. He’s calm, composed, and well-respected in the dressing room. He has plenty of experience captaining the T20I team and did a fantastic job leading the ODI side last month."
