Mushfiqur and Mehidy lead Bangladesh to their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan

Mushfiqur and Mehidy lead Bangladesh to their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan star in Bangladesh's historic maiden Test win against Pakistan at Rawalpindi.

Inspired by Mushfiqur Rahim's score of 191, Bangladesh's bowlers bowled out Pakistan for 146 on the fifth day. This gave Pakistan their fifth loss in nine home Tests without a win. Pakistan last won a home Test in February 2021 against South Africa. This match marked Bangladesh's first-ever Test win against Pakistan, and it was a ten-wicket victory. It was also a rare away win for Bangladesh, who had only won two Tests abroad in the last seven years before this game.
On the fourth day, Bangladesh gradually took control of the game. By the fifth day, they were going towards victory. The fast bowlers dismissed three of Pakistan's top four batters early on. Then, spinners Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took over, claiming the remaining seven wickets. The pitch had started to turn more and had some uneven bounce, making it difficult for the Pakistani batters.
After Pakistan, with Mohammad Rizwan scoring 51, set a target of just 30 runs for Bangladesh in the second session, Bangladesh quickly chased down the runs in just 6.3 overs.
Although the ball wasn't swinging as much as the previous evening, Bangladesh's fast bowlers set the stage for victory in the first session. Saim Ayub was already out from the fourth day, and Shan Masood was dismissed early when he edged a ball from Hasan Mahmud to the wicketkeeper. Initially, the on-field umpire didn't give it out, but Bangladesh reviewed the decision, and UltraEdge showed a spike, overturning the call.
In a tense cricket match, Babar Azam was initially saved from dismissal when Litton Das dropped a catch off his edge at 28 runs. As Babar continued to bat, he gained confidence but faced challenges from Nahid, who bowled several short balls at high speeds to force him onto the back foot. Babar eventually got out for 22 when he chopped a ball onto his stumps.
After Babar's dismissal, Pakistan's innings started to collapse. Saud Shakeel was stumped for a duck after trying to counter Shakib's spin. Abdullah Shafique got out just before lunch by playing a reckless shot that was caught at backward point. Shortly after, Agha Salman was caught off a Mehidy offbreak, and Pakistan's situation worsened.
Rizwan played a crucial counter-attacking innings, hitting several boundaries and reducing the deficit significantly. However, he had to adapt his approach after the dismissal of Salman and faced a new challenge when Shaheen Shah Afridi was out lbw to a Mehidy delivery.
At 111 for 7, Pakistan managed to take a small lead, but soon after, Naseem Shah was out, and Rizwan, who scored a solid half-century, also got out. Mehidy wrapped up Pakistan's innings by dismissing Rizwan and Mohammad Ali.
In the final innings, Bangladesh, led by Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam, comfortably reached the target. Zakir hit the winning runs with a sweep shot, ensuring Bangladesh's victory.
