Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy added to Indian ODI squad against England
Varun Chakravarthy has been included in India's ODI team for the series against England
Varun Chakravarthy was Player of the Series in the T20Is against England.
Varun Chakarvarthy the Indian Spinner is now going to play for the three-ODI match series going to be against England on behalf of his five T20Is excellent performance.
For the first ODI, Varun has already travelled to reach the venue that is Nagpur and get trained on Tuesday to open the series on Thursday. He became the highest wicket-taker in India as he achieved a 4-1 victory in the T20I series that finished on Sunday, he took 14 wickets with an average of 9.86 and an economy of 7.66.
Varun hasn’t played any match on ODIs and this is going to be his first time in the squad. He has played just 23 List A games and was the second-highest wicket-taker in this season's Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking 18 wickets in six matches for Tamil Nadu. His addition to the ODI squad strengthens the spin attack, which already includes Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar.
Varun's inclusion is important since these ODIs against England are India's first 50-over games since August last year and the only series before the Champions Trophy. Several specialist bowlers in the Champions Trophy squad—Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah—are returning from injuries. Bumrah is included in the squad for only the third ODI against England, while Harshit Rana is in the squad for the first two games.
England has kept Rehan Ahmed as cover for the ODI series after he served as the drinks carrier during the T20I series. Joe Root arrived in India before the fifth T20I in Mumbai and is expected to return at No. 3 on Thursday. However, Jamie Smith is doubtful for the first two ODIs due to a minor calf injury.
India will play England in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad on February 6, 9, and 12, before heading to Dubai for the Champions Trophy. They can make changes to their Champions Trophy squad until February 11 without needing approval from the ICC.
