Najmul Hossain Shanto: Our team struggles to achieve 180 runs on the scoreboard
India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets with 49 balls to spare in the opening game of the three-match T20I series at Gwalior.
Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted on Sunday that their inability to make the most of the powerplay is causing problems for them in T20Is.
In the T20I between India and Bangladesh India marked their victory with 49 balls and the opening game of the three-match T20I series at Gwalior ended with time to spare. In the powerplay, it was their one more failure as they were able to make only 39 runs in their first six overs and after batting they finished the inning by 127 runs only. On the other hand, India made 71 runs in the powerplay.
In the T20Is for Bangladesh, powerplay batting has always been an issue and the team continued to face challenges with their opening partnership for quite some time. In the first over, Litton Das (4) made a hasty shot and got out, while Parvez Hossain Emon, who made a comeback to T20I cricket, accidentally hit the ball onto the stumps.
In the opening, Bangladesh’s contribution was only for 5 runs and the whole partnership contributed 69 runs till the last inning and the highest was 35 which became a tension for the entire team.
Najmul expressed concern about the powerplay. He emphasised the importance of a good start with the bat and highlighted the need to preserve wickets and score runs in the first six overs. He mentioned that struggling in the powerplay puts pressure on the following batsmen and called for more responsibility from those batting in the powerplay.
As per Nijmul Mentality and skill set are the major points of difference between the two teams but he also said that their teams aren’t as bad as it seemed by the time of the opening game against India.
He added that he doesn’t consider his team as a bad team as they are better but they haven’t played for a long time in this format, but that doesn’t make their team the bad team. He said he does not blame any particular player but the entire batting team wasn’t doing well today. We will be confident in how we score, but we need to choose the right opportunities. We'll think about it, but we won't change our approach hastily.
Nijmul said that his team has the ability but certainly improvement is required as they have been using the same batting format for ten Years no doubt they have done well, but it is required to make some changes. He said that At home, we play on wickets that usually allow for scores of 140-150 runs. Our batters struggle to reach 180 runs. It's not just about the wickets, we also need to think about the players' skills and mindset.
