New Zealand beats Bangladesh to make the semi-finals; India also gets through

ICC Champion Trophy 2025: New Zealand and India have stormed into the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 from Group A.

Rachin Ravindra made his Champions Trophy debut because Daryl Mitchell was ill, and he made it unforgettable by scoring a century that secured New Zealand's spot in the ICC tournament semi-final. India also qualified from Group A, while defending champions and hosts Pakistan, along with Bangladesh, were knocked out. Ravindra's 112 runs off 105 balls were crucial in New Zealand's relatively easy chase of Bangladesh's 236, which they completed with five wickets and 23 balls to spare.
Bangladesh initially troubled New Zealand by Taskin Ahmed dismissing Will Young and Nahid Rana catching Kane Williamson behind. At 15/2, Bangladesh's hopes were high, but Ravindra changed the game.
Ravindra built a steady 57-run partnership with Devon Conway before Mustafizur removed Conway. However, Ravindra's confidence was evident from the start as he hit a boundary off Rana on his second delivery. He continued to pressure Bangladesh by hitting two more boundaries off Taskin, reversing the early pressure they had created.
Conway hit three boundaries off Rana in the next over, putting the chase back on track. He reached his fifty with a powerful straight drive and then formed a crucial 129-run partnership with Tom Latham. Latham, who had scored a century in the previous game, played an important role while Ravindra continued his aggressive play.
Latham was patient, hitting only three boundaries during his 55, but his cautious approach complemented Ravindra's attacking style perfectly. Ravindra was dropped by Bangladesh twice, but by then, he had already dashed their hopes. He surpassed Williamson to become New Zealand's top centurion in ICC ODI tournaments. Despite both falling after New Zealand passed 200, Ravindra ensured there were no further problems.
In this crucial match, Bangladesh had a roller-coaster innings, ending with a below-par total of 236. After being sent into bat, their openers started well, adding 45 runs quickly. Despite Rawalpindi's reputation for high-scoring games, New Zealand managed to halt Bangladesh's progress with regular wickets. Offspinner Michael Bracewell led the way with figures of 4-26 in an unchanged 10-over spell, breaking the opening partnership by dismissing Tanzid Hasan.
Bangladesh struggled in the middle overs, unable to accelerate the scoring or prevent losing wickets. Only captain Najmul Hossain Shanto combined intent with runs, scoring 77. The experienced Bangladesh players fell while trying to increase the run rate. Mehidy Hasan's dismissal by Will O'Rourke's mid-on catch allowed Bracewell to dismantle the middle order, claiming the wickets of Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah. Bangladesh lost half their side for just 118 as Bracewell achieved his career-best figures.
Shanto fought valiantly before falling to O'Rourke for 77. The lower-order fightback, led by Jaker Ali, saw Bangladesh score over 6 runs per over in the last 10 overs. Ali and Rishad Hossain helped Bangladesh surpass 200, but it wasn't enough against the brilliance of Ravindra and his team.
Brief Scores: Bangladesh 236/9 (Najmul Hossain Shanto 77, Jaker Ali 45; Michael Bracewell 4-26) lost to New Zealand 240/5 (Rachin Ravindra 112, Tom Latham 55) by 5 wickets.
