New Zealand strode to 255 for 9 in their 37 overs, with a 112-run second wicket stand between Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman the bedrock of that innings. And then Sri Lanka's top order crashed and burned again. They were 4 for 22 inside the first five overs, their hopes of levelling the series almost completely dashed.
Kamindu Mendis attempted to revive the innings, but his 64 was not nearly enough to revive this innings. Sri Lanka slipped to a 113-run defeat, having also lost heavily to New Zealand in the first ODI. New Zealand take the series despite being significantly depleted by absences and injuries. Sri Lanka are essentially at full strength, but the failure of their top five continues to dog them, even in a rain-reduced match such as this.

Now the match will be of 37 overs from one side, and the first powerplay will be off eight overs and a maximum of two bowlers will be allowed for the eight overs.
In the first match, New Zealand’s fast bowlers quickly took out Sri Lanka’s top batters, and New Zealand won by nine wickets. They chased down the target of 179 with 142 balls to spare.
Both teams made one change to their line-ups. Tom Latham returned after missing the first game due to a side injury, replacing wicketkeeper-batter Mitch Hay. Sri Lanka brought in spinner Maheesh Theekshana, replacing fast bowler Lahiru Kumara, who didn’t take any wickets and gave away eight runs per over in Wellington.
There might be more rain later, and the wet outfield could affect the game. The venue, Seddon Park, is known for high scores, and the boundaries are easier to hit compared to other international grounds. Fast bowlers might get some movement with the new ball.
The second powerplay will start at the ninth over and end at the 30th. The third powerplay will last for seven overs.
