Pant and Rahul Make Test Cricket Comeback in Bangladesh Series; Dayal Earns First Call-Up
The BCCI announced India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh. Rishabh Pant made a return to the Test team, while Yash Dayal received a maiden call-up.
For the first time after a car accident, Rishab Pant has decided to be back after the car accident in December 2022, at the time of the announcement of the first match against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami who had ankle surgery will not be returning for the match.
Yash Dayal, a left-arm fast bowler, has been chosen to play in his first Test match. He has been picked with the upcoming five-Test series in Australia in mind. On the other hand, left-arm seamer Yash Dayal has already got his Maiden test call-up. He has been chosen with the upcoming five-Test series in Australia later this year in mind.
In the team of 16 members, KL Rahul will be returning too who was hindered from the England series after one test. Akash Deep has retained his place and has debuted in this series. He surely has impressed the selectors by picking up 9 wickets in the Duleep Trophy finished in Bengaluru.
Rahul played his last match in January that was against England, due to which he has been ruled out for the whole series as he suffered from a quadriceps injury. Meanwhile, he returned well in the Duleep Trophy and scored 37 in his first innings and 57 in the rest of it. On the other hand, Pant scored 7 and 61 along with 7 catches behind the stumps for India B.
Dayal has also played well and picked up three wickets in the fourth innings of the match helping India B to get a great win. He is been able to play 24 first-class matches out of which he picked up 76 wickets out of the 28.89.
Dhruv Jurel made his debut against England and scored 190 runs out of three tests and also be the second wicket keep in the side. Now Rajat Patidar, KS Bharat, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sundar and Mukesh Kumar have been left out of that series.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are set to be the main fast bowlers for India. In the spin department, India will have R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
The first Test against Bangladesh will take place in Chennai starting from September 19, and the second Test will be played in Kanpur from September 27. After the two Tests, there will be three T20I matches.
