Patel, Bowlers Star as Gujarat Crushes Saurashtra

Urvil Patel and the bowlers helped Gujarat win easily in Sheldon Jackson's last game

Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Gujarat will face the game winner between Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir in the semi-final.

Urvil Patel one of the best player who had break the second-fastest T20 century last year in November, continued his best form in the red-ball format and hits a first class hundred in the Gujarat’s innings and gave a 98 run of victory against Saurashtra in the quarter-final match in the Ranji trophy in Rajkot. Gujarat will face whoever wins the current match between Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir in the semi-finals.
Urvil top-scored with 140 runs as Gujarat made a huge total of 511 in the first innings, giving them a 295-run lead over Saurashtra, who scored only 216 after being sent to bat first. Urvil got great support from Jaymeet Patel (103 runs) and Manan Hingrajia (83 runs) as they batted for a long time, facing 159.1 overs.
Saurashtra had a chance when Gujarat was struggling at 78 for 3 early on the second day. But then Hingrajia and Jaymeet built a strong partnership of 144 runs, which helped Gujarat reach a massive total.
Saurashtra started the fourth day 262 runs behind with all ten wickets in hand but were bowled out in less than two sessions. For Gujarat, left-arm seamer Arzan Nagwaswalla took three wickets, seamer Priyajitsing Jadeja claimed four (including the key wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara), and Ravi Bishnoi, returning from national duty, took two important wickets in the second innings.
Saurashtra managed just 197 in their second innings, with Harvik Desai top-scoring with 54 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara had a modest season, scoring 26 and 2 in this match. Apart from a score of 234 against Chhattisgarh and 99 against Assam, his highest score in the other eight innings was the 26 he made in the first innings against Gujarat.
Saurashtra's exit also marked the end of Sheldon Jackson's decorated career. Jackson finishes with 7283 runs in 174 innings at an average of 45.80 in first-class cricket. He scored 21 centuries and 39 half-centuries, with the highlight being the Ranji Trophy win in 2019-20.
