Ravindra Jadeja takes his 35th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket
Team India's star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, marked another milestone in his illustrious career by securing his 35th five-wicket haul in first-class
Rohit Sharma played in a Ranji Trophy after almost 10 years but he wasn’t able to perform well as he hoped he would. He made 3 runs in 19 balls and he was caught out by Jammu & Kashmir’s rising delivery given by Umar Nazir. This makes us remember Rohit's two recent dismissals against Pat Cummins and Matt Henry at MCG and Wankhede Stadium.
After Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed as Mumbai decided to bat first. Whereas, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer were able to score just 12 and 11 scores in the first innings was off 33.2 over where Mumbai was cleaned out for 120 runs. Mumbai's good bowling gives them a chance to keep their deficit under 100 runs.
After BCCI’s new guidelines, Rohit was forced to come back to the domestic games, and those were introduced after India achieved a 3-1 reversal against Australia. Rohit's future in Test cricket is uncertain after he chose not to play in the Sydney Test, but he has made it clear that he hasn't retired and still hopes to lead the team in Test matches.
Gill and Punjab struggle against the swing and seam of the ball.
Subhuman Gill’s performance in the Banglore was equally average and it's not just about the batting but as a captain too. Punjab, missing Abhishek Sharma, was bowled out for just 55 runs, with Gill scoring only 4 before being caught. The swing and seam bowlers dominated on a green pitch at Chinnaswamy. By the end of the day, Punjab was so far behind that they would likely need a special performance from Gill just to earn a point in the match.
Gill's return to domestic cricket was a chance for him to gain some match practice and rebuild his confidence after a disappointing stint in Australia, where he played only three out of five Tests and scored a total of 93 runs in five innings. His performance outside Asia since the 2021 World Test Championship final has been under scrutiny, as he has an average of only 17.64 over 18 innings.
Pant Dismissed; Jadeja scored five on Rajkot Turner
In Rajkot, Rishabh Pant got out after facing just 10 balls, being dismissed by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja. His out was part of a top-order collapse for Delhi against spin bowling. Ravindra Jadeja capitalized on the spin-friendly conditions and took his 35th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket as Delhi was bowled out for 188 runs.
In reply, Saurashtra ended the day trailing by 25 runs but had already lost five wickets, including Cheteshwar Pujara and Jadeja, who was the top scorer with 38 runs. Pujara, who is not currently part of India's Test plans, scored only 6 runs. Besides his 234 runs against Chhattisgarh, Pujara has had a tough season with other scores of 16, 0, 2, 3, and 14.
Siddharth Desai passed over perfect 10
Gujarat left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai took nine wickets in the very first session of play against Uttarakhand in Ahmedabad, and he had a chance to become the second bowler this season to achieve a perfect 10, after Haryana's Anshul Kamboj. However, that opportunity ended when Vishal Jayswal got the last wicket.
Desai finished with figures of 9 for 36, setting the record for the best bowling performance by a Gujarat player in first-class cricket, surpassing Jasu Patel's previous record of 8 for 21 against Saurashtra in the 1960-61 season. Desai, who took nine wickets on his debut against Kerala in the 2017-18 season, has become Gujarat's leading spinner since Piyush Chawla returned to his home state of Uttar Pradesh.
Khaleel scores maiden five-for
After Making his first-class debut eight years ago, Khaleel Ahmed has finally taken his first five-wicket haul. This included important wickets from Vidarbha, like Karun Nair, who was in great form at the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His final bowling stats were 15 overs, 5 maidens, 37 runs, and 5 wickets.
Khaleel's strong performance comes at a time when he is on the edge of joining the national team. The selectors are looking for left-arm seamers, a type of bowler that has been missing from India's Test team since Zaheer Khan retired. This is only Khaleel's 17th first-class match, with three of those happening in the current Ranji season (including this one) and two in the Duleep Trophy in August, where he took nine wickets with an average of 21.66.
