RCB holds on against Hardik and Tilak to claim a memorable win at Wankhede
IPL 2025: Krunal Pandya, Rajat Patidar Shine As Royal Challengers Bengaluru Win By 12 Runs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended a 10-year losing streak by defeating Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium for the first time since 2015 in an exciting, high-scoring match. The game was close all the way through and almost favored the home team before RCB managed to take control just in time, securing two critical points on the road.
Where was the match won?
In the final overs of the match, Rajat Patidar's solid hitting and Jitesh Sharma's clever playing made the biggest difference. They didn't let Hardik's double-wicket over in the 15th over affect them. While Mumbai Indians struggled a bit in the PowerPlay, they managed to recover during the middle overs and prepared themselves for the last part of the game. However, RCB performed really well in those final overs to claim the victory.

PowerPlay:
The big game started off perfectly. First, Phil Salt hit a beautiful cover drive on the very first ball, but then Trent Boult struck back with an inswinger on the next ball and knocked the stumps down. Virat Kohli greeted Jasprit Bumrah, making his tournament debut, by hitting a six over midwicket. Kohli continued to show his attacking style, hitting boundaries off Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Will Jacks. Devdutt Padikkal also joined in the fun, hitting back-to-back sixes off Chahar and wrapping up an exciting PowerPlay with a 20-run over.
Middle Overs:
Virat Kohli kept attacking and reached his 50 in just 29 balls, hitting a six off Vignesh Puthur. However, Padikkal's quick 37 from 22 balls ended when Jacks took a good catch at long-on. Mumbai Indians (MI) slowed the scoring down for a couple of overs. Mitchell Santner bowled well, giving away only 20 runs in three overs, but his fourth over saw some big hits from Patidar and Kohli. Just when RCB looked ready to accelerate, Hardik Pandya stepped in with a crucial over. He first dismissed Kohli for 67 (42), caught by Naman Dhir at deep square leg, and then removed Liam Livingstone for a duck, thanks to his smart bowling outside the off-stump.
Death Overs
Patidar took on Hardik Pandya and punished him with two sixes and a four, while Jitesh Sharma also smashed a boundary in a 23-run over. Jasprit Bumrah remained difficult to score off, as the batters could only manage singles against him in the 18th over. However, Trent Boult was expensive, conceding 18 runs in the 16th and then allowing Jitesh to hit two sixes in the 19th. Ryan Rickleton pulled off an amazing diving catch to dismiss Patidar for 64 (32). Despite Bumrah's solid last over, Jitesh finished with an impressive unbeaten 40 off 19 balls, including a six off the final over.

PowerPlay
Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued despite early signs of recovery. Yash Dayal dismissed him with a full, inswinging delivery that hit the stumps off an inside edge. Soon after, Ryan Rickleton was given out LBW thanks to a smart review by Patidar and Jitesh Sharma. Josh Hazlewood bowled brilliantly, mixing his deliveries well and keeping Suryakumar Yadav quiet with just two runs in the final PowerPlay over.
Middle Overs
RCB took a risk by bringing on Suyash Sharma against a strong spin hitter like Suryakumar Yadav, but the leg-spinner held his own, controlling the game well and keeping MI in check. Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya gave away three boundaries in his first over but bounced back with a surprise short ball to dismiss Will Jacks. Suryakumar struggled and was dropped twice before being caught at mid-off. Just when RCB looked in control, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya turned the game around. Tilak attacked Suyash Sharma, while Hardik launched an assault on Hazlewood, smashing him for 22 runs in an over. He continued his aggressive batting against Krunal Pandya, hitting two sixes in a 19-run over, bringing MI close to victory with only 65 needed from 30 balls.
Death Overs
MI had the momentum going into the final overs, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood bowled with pinpoint accuracy to turn things around for RCB. Bhuvneshwar dismissed Tilak Varma for a well-made 56 (29), while Hardik Pandya fell to Hazlewood at deep midwicket. With MI needing 19 runs off the final over, Patidar had no choice but to rely on Krunal Pandya. The experienced spinner removed Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar with a stunning boundary-line catch from Phil Salt and Tim David. Krunal sealed RCB’s victory by taking one last wicket, making this his best bowling performance in the IPL. MI fell short by 12 runs.
