Records Tumble as England Breach 800 After Brook's 317

Harry Brook became England's sixth Test triple-centurion. Joe Root breaks Alastair Cook's Test run-scoring record for England, made a career-best 262.

In over 27 years England became the first team to breach the 800 run mark in a test as they continued in the opening Test match in Multan against Pakistan, Harry Brook scored a triple century, becoming the sixth Englishman to do so. His 317 runs came off 322 balls, making it the second-fastest triple century in Test history. He was on track to surpass Brian Lara's 400 but eventually got out.
Joe Root seemed on track to score 300 runs, but Agha Salman managed to get him out for 262. The two players had a huge 454-run partnership in the first half of the day. The visitors ended Pakistan's tough time by declaring at 823/7, giving them a lead of 267 runs in the first innings.
After the lunch break, the game resumed with a score of 658/3. Brook made a strong start by hitting a couple of boundaries off Saim Ayub. The 25-year-old quickly reached 250 runs, almost matching Root's score. This was only the third time that two batters had reached the 250-run mark in the same innings. Their partnership of 454 runs was the fourth-highest ever in this format. However, just as both batters seemed poised to score even more, Root was caught lbw by a low ball from Salman.
Jamie Smith showed his intentions by hitting a boundary on the second ball, and England continued to play aggressively. Brook hit a six and a boundary off Salman in the same over, and then hit another six off Naseem Shah to reach the 290s. When Brook reached 300, he had taken only 310 balls, which was the second fastest after Virender Sehwag's triple century against South Africa in 2008. However, Pakistan took some wickets before the declaration, ending any chance for Brook to get closer to Brian Lara's record.
