The negative consequences of Pakistan's unsuccessful T20 World Cup in the USA have led to the removal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from their roles in the Pakistan Cricket Board's selection committee.
The Pakistan Cricket Board hasn't confirmed this officially yet, but it's expected that they will announce it soon.Riaz and Razzaq were members of the seven-person selection committee responsible for choosing the team for the ICC tournament. It's believed that an internal investigation by the PCB uncovered flaws in many of the committee's selections. It is also ascertained that the PCB’s decision was taken based on inputs received from different sources such as the manager, the coach, and maybe, even the captain Babar Azam of the touring committee. Also, Razzaq will be forced to leave the selection panel that selects players in the women’s team.
The choice was made after receiving input from different groups involved, such as athletes and behind-the-scenes personnel, about promoting and choosing specific players even though there were concerns from other participants.
During the tournament, they invited a former cricket team leader and former head of the PCB, Ramiz Raja, who was worried about the choices of the team. He especially did not like the strategy to recall Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir from retirement.
Moreover, the presence of Riaz and Razzaq in the current World Championship of Legends in Birmingham has not been taken lightly by the PCB. They started playing charity matches when the PCB was already under pressure, which was quite unimpressive. Pakistan has made it to this stage of [the tournament] playing against retired players from India, Pakistan, South Africa, England, the West Indies, and Australia.
A few months ago, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a group called the selection committee. Their job is to choose which players should be on Pakistan’s national cricket team. The committee doesn’t have a chairman yet, but it includes Riaz, Razzaq, Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and either Gary Kirsten or Jason Gillespie, who are important leaders in the team as coaches or captains. Bilal Afzal is also involved in the committee; he serves as a data analyst, providing the committee with statistics and data to assist them in selecting the top athletes.
During the World Cup, Pakistan had a surprising loss to the USA team and a close defeat to India in New York. This made it difficult for them to progress further in the tournament. However, they did manage to win against Canada and Ireland. India and the USA moved forward to the next stage of the tournament from Group A. The final game of the World Cup took place in Barbados on June 29th, where Rohit Sharma’s team from India won the trophy.
